Whataburger is a lot like Dairy Queen, whereby the quality of the experience varies greatly depending upon the location. In many small Texas towns, both the Whataburger and the DQ have been staffed by people who have worked there for years or even decades. They put out a far superior product to the stuff you find in the city.

While I will say Whataburger until I'm blue in the face, what about White Castle and Krystal? Don't they count for anything?

I don't eat there very often, because it's expensive for fast food, but I think the Thickburger at Hardee's is the best fast food burger you can buy.

    Obviously.

May the fast-food gods strike you down, blasphemer.

Your fast-food burger wisdom impresses me.

The man knows of what he speaks!

Don't submit to the dark side... even if Carl's Jr. IS your father.

Thank you for restoring sanity to the world.

...anyone wanna guess what I voted for? :D :p

Seriously though... this is not even a question. See my sig if you believe otherwise. Asking "does In-n-Out dominate on all other burger chains" is like asking "could Mike Tyson beat up your grandma." The answer is just so obvious, why would you ask the question?

You silly Texans and your Whataburger... ;)

Heck, Culvers is better than Whataburger...

    Whataburger is CRAP man..

In-N-Out is as good as "Chain" burgers go.

If you want some REAL GOOD burger, go to "Burger Joint" in NYC at the Le Parker Meridien Hotel. It'll cost you $7 a burger but it's worth it! :D I always get 2!

good call. its the most hidden gem you would ever find. in a nice hotel lobby in midtown, you will smell the grill and see a curtain with a small neon burger sign. totally no frills, but when you go behind the curtain you are transported to an old school "burger nazi" style line leading to the register. the kitchen is cramped with employees grilling burgers, and indeed they are some of the best in the city.

be prepared to spend your entire lunch hour waiting in line.

No sir, the menus do vary between say a Hardees in Iowa compared to a Carl's Jr. in Cali.

The Carl's Jr. Guacamole 6 Dollar burger is pretty good, but every time I have ever had "Hardees" It has been a forgettable experience.

I actually love fast food burgers. I think Whataburger is better than In-n-Out, but slightly more expensive(In-N-Out is very cheap). I'm living in CA but Whataburger is still the best.

But the best of all is another California chain, even edging out Whataburger.

I'm talking about Fatburger. Their burgers are the best, and their shakes are out of this world. The shakes there are better than just about any Diner shake I can think of.

Ugh! You lost me there. Culver's puts out tasteless food. It's not bad... it just doesn't taste like anything. I agree with the poster earlier who said the quality of Dairy Queen and Whataburger can vary, depending on where you are. Dan's in Austin beats them all for good, cheap burgers (they use Angus beef), great malts, and great fries and onion rings - cheap.

    Is Austin a region? :p

Agree with the guy who said Whataburgers in the country pwn Whataburgers in the city. That's one of my favorite things about driving somewhere in Texas -- the inevitable lunch stop at a Whataburger in a small Texas town. Always better than the ones in Houston.

Also agree with whoever said Texas Burger. We had one in Huntsville right next to the Whataburger and it was better. Plus, they have ice cream. Nothing says Texas like burgers and ice cream!!!

What's the big deal about in and out? Are those the ones where they give you 4 little burgers instead of 1 big one? I've never been there, but I'd much rather have 1 big burger.

I've had in-n-out........in Cali and Vegas--been drug there by other people who are under their spell. The burgers are good.............not great, but good. Not as good as Whataburger, but better than Sonic (with sonic being slightly to greatly better than mickey D's, BK, or JITB).

But the fries.........I DON'T GET IT. The first time I had them, I thought it was a bad batch, but additional trips confirmed it. They can't possibly be made from potatoes because they taste just like cardboard. Maybe it's pulpwood.........I don't know, but it sure as heck isn't potato. If you like them, fine...........taste is subjective. I've had fries in France, The Netherlands, Belgium.....etc. Those fries suit my taste--crisp on the outside, cooked perfectly in the middle, and they taste like a well fried POTATO. I've had some very well prepared fries stateside as well. I've also had poorly made, limp and greasy fries at places like Snuffers in Dallas, and although I can't stand them, I'd rather eat those than the relatively crisp fried cardboard at In-n-out. I don't understand the love for this place, but then again............there are a lot of things I don't understand about California.

You have been grossly misinformed. In-N-Out is a very good sized Burger. They are not a frou-frou little place that serves Veggie platters or side salads. They serve 2 kinds of food... burgers and fries. Since they are almost exclusively in California (a few in Arizona and Nevada) the produce is extremely fresh, since obviously California is where most all the nation's produce comes from. What you get is a exceptional burger with the freshest lettuce, tomato, and onion you have ever tasted. The secret sauce is kind of like mayo and thousand island dressing, but not too tangy... just right. The meat itself isn't special by any means... but it is certainly respectable.

I agree the fries are more of an acquired taste. They use all vegetable oil rather than grease on the fresh potatoes which makes for a more organic taste. Some people love em, some people hate em... I'm in between somewhere.

As far as Whataburger goes, I was very excited to finally try it when I moved to Texas. I had my first one at a chain in Marshall Texas (I guess you could call that the country) and it was simply afwul. The bun was soggy, I kid you not. Henceforth I started referring to the place as "Waterburger." When I tried it again in McKinney, I found it to be pretty good... nothing special though. Its a decent burger, better than McDonalds and Burger King for sure.

Fatburger was mentioned and is pretty good.

Has anyone tried Blake's Lotaburger? (New Mexico only). If you ever come through Albuquerque you gotta try it.

We have it here in Dallas. I didn't like the burger as much. But they do have kick ass shakes.
