^^ Too much romance and drama.

Watch Ipman 1 and 2, Dragon Tiger Gate.

Dragon Tiger Gate is ridiculous fun; The plot is suspect, but the action is great.

This is a pretty good movie, it's from the same director of Ong-Bak.

It's about an autistic girl who can pick up martial arts moves from watching it... it's a funny movie but it has some good action sequences. Plus it's cool because she's like 14 or something and she does her own stunts...

Highly recommended ;) It's on netflix.

Reign of Assassins is one of those retro-HK "Crouching Tiger" movies with a gracefully aging Michelle Yeoh and director John Woo.

It's nothing revolutionary but they don't make these kinds of movies that entertaining often anymore.

I loved Red cliff. Ip Man 1 was really good too. I haven't seen part 2 yet. I'll check it out and some of the others mentioned here.

Do not waste your time with True Legend, which hit last year. It was Crap-Fu.

First time I have ever been disappointed in Yuen Wo-Ping.

And The Raid: Redemtion was just miserably bad, especially after all the ridiculous hype surrounding it.

I always fall back on Iron Monkey as one of the really fun Kung Fu movies, and it has Donnie Yen being bada$$ but not quite so grim.

May be time to dig up Red Cliff. Been hesitant, because Warlords was such a dismal movie, but I think I will give it a try.

I'll join in on The Raid: Redemption...

I don't even like action and martial arts movies, but sometimes, these movies are too badass even for my testosterone-challenged self to resist. My friends dragged me to this one in the theaters, and I actually enjoyed it.

Didn't particularly like The Raid: Redemption. May be different for you.

Loved the raid, Man from nowhere, Flashpoint, death of a samurai was pretty good but not much action.

Red Cliff was simply amazing!! My friend recommended it to me after I watched Hero, and was thoroughly interested in Martial Arts movies. It is definitely a must watch not only for the action scenes but the story as well. It's divided into two movies so it will take a good 5 hours to complete.

    Agree with the above...

Red Cliff (6.5/10) is better than Warlords (4.5/10), but HK/Chinese movies are notoriously lacking on proper story execution and resolution.

    Haven't seen Raid: Redemption yet...

Thanks. I think I'll checkt it out on the getflix.

The Raid was interesting enough. But the story was so amateurish, and the acting was non-existent. And I probably should have watched the subtitled version instead of the dubbed, but I was watching it with my son and he hates having to read subtitles.

So we watched it together, and good grief, every other word was f-this and f-you and f-that.. sheesh did they not know any other words??

And I don't mean to spoil anything here because everyone knows the good guy is going to win in the end in these movies, but the final fight with the awesome midget bad guy was just so disappointing. The good guy is supposed to beat the bad guy, not have the bad guy barely lose to two good guys teaming up on him. I HATE when martial-arts movies do that. It always makes the hero look weak, and so at the very end, you are left with a film where you have rooted for this hero through the whole thing, and then as it ends, you realize you have been rooting for a guy who was too weak to win on his own.

Which was especially disappointing since we saw the hero guy practicing at the beginning, and also saw him being a bada$$ and beating up twenty guys at once, and so we really, as an audience, were looking forward to watching him take on this cold-blooded dangerous midget. But no. Not the resolution we were hoping for.

    Bleh. Not my thing.
