Thinking about getting one. Just want it for entry doors and with video and maybe windows and movement if not to expensive. DIY.
A big dog is considered one of the more effective deterrents for criminal activity. Slap an NRA sign on your front lawn.
I remember as a kid, while we had an ADT system (in the very dangerous suburbs of West Houston in the 80's) my dad had an ADT sticker on every single window of the house. My brother's cocker spaniel was a very ineffective guard dog, though.
This is a rabbit hole. I advise you to look at monitored systems. They’re surprisingly inexpensive. You can view your own cams too. I have a hodgepodge of cameras, sensors, ifttt applets, a shotgun and a mastiff. They won’t pick me first.
Put a picture of Tilman Fertitta on your lawn. People will think you are broke and no one will rob you.
As Buck suggested, a big dog and a shotgun. I've got that covered. I've also make it a habit to crank up classic rock loud enough that you can hear it at a window or your door if you're standing close, just in case the dog is with us. Toss in the alarm system (or just the sign) and most "bad guys" will simply go somewhere else. That's if you have a house. An apartment in a complex might be a bit more problematic. I've never lived in a complex. Lived in a garage apartment for a few years not far from Hermann Park, though, back in the early '70's. Had a different big dog at the time.
personal defense is carbine or pistol (shotguns are crap) burglary mitigation is many of the widely available cameras for entry points and insurance
Wow I'm surprised this is a blind spot for Clutchfans. Outside the humour I am dissapoint. Thanks @Xerobull its for my mothers house and i think she just wants the ability to check the door with video more than anything else, she lives in safe area.
