Ja-Who? is the biggest 2pac wanna be ... all his songs basically sounds the same. East Coast NYC rappers is all about "Look at what I have, I got this and I got that .... life is good, hoes and $$$" that's all the talk about. Puffy Mase and Ja Too $hort was da shiet when I was growing up.
Where is LUDA . . he the best out there now Well .. if you not gonna add Andre 3000 and Big Boi to the List Rocket River
Ludacris and Lloyd Banks Kings of the punchline. Nothing can compare to Outkast, that's a genre all its own.
I have heard plenty of Jay-Z, and in my opinion he is NOT the greatest rapper in the game. That is all.
who has been around longer than all of them? three bad brothers you know so well.it started way back in history with Adrock, MCA and Mike D.... just went to three Beastie Boys show this month-MSG, New Orleans, and Long Island, they are still pioneers of "TRUE HIP HOP" not all this commercial cRap. Jay z gets my vote from this list
You better recognize. Old school has the new rip off artists locked down. Furthermore... 1. KRS-One (BDP) 2. Rakim (Eric B. &...) 3. Chuck D (Public Enemy) 4. Beastie Boys 5. Run DMC 6. Nas (when his body of work exceeds the top three, he'll be in the top 3.) 7. Ice Cube 8. Tupac (earlier the better) 9. Eminem (the premier white gut outside of the genius of the Beastie's) 10. Biggie Smallz 11. Jay Z 12. MC Serch (3rd Bass) 13. Fresh Prince (Will Smith) 14. Marvelous (Cash Money &...) . . . top 20. Kanye West (based on bravery and skill in content "Jesus Walks" took guts, and he can flow.). . top 25. Ludacris - one of the few dirty south emcees with skills 26. DMX (rips Tupac's style IMO) . . . . . . . . 66. Ja Rule (rips DMX and Tupac's style - wanksta) 67. 50 Cent (dropped bomb hits, then went sell out wanksta himself) . . . . . . 100+ -bling bling rap (fun to bump in your ride -in fact top 10 on that list, but hardly any lyrical content with any substance whatsoever.)
Oh yeah, what about the Wu Tang? Raekwon's Built 4 Cuban Linx is one of the most overlooked hiphop masterpieces. P.S. RIP Osiris
From the list, Tupac and Jay-Z. However, there are better MCs out there. Off the top of my head: Raekwon GZA Nas Mos Def Rakim Prodigy (from Mobb Deep) Chuck D KRS-One and of course the great Reverend Run and DMC
What I think is pretty stupid is people who don't listen to hip-hip (or maybe haven't listent to hip-hop in 10-15 years) coming in and saying "OMG RAP IS SO DUMB VANILLA ICE AND BEASTIE BOYZ ARE THE **** THO HOMIE, BLING BLING FO SHIZZLE" If that is all you can say, can your **** because you are bringing nothing to the convesation. It's not like you see me in the rock threads saying how much Creed was the ****. WHAT WHAT.
who said they like creed, or vanilla ice for that matter? my point is simple, beastie boys were there during the beginning of Def Jam, they are still around today and have grown as artists and as people. that is true hip hop to me, you say some havent listened to hip hop, thats because hip hop is dead in my opinion. doug e fresh made guest appearances, as did reverend RUN, at least they still recognize. de la soul, tribe called quest, mos def and talib kweli, hip hop has to mean something to me, it has to be real
hip hop is not dead, but the mainstream artists sell their souls for the fame and the money, which is sad because a lot of them are very talented. You can't say hip-hop is dead because there are guys who make hip-hop great in the present day. Nas (minus the ill-fated Escobar Cesar alter ego), Talib, Mos Def, The Roots, Outkast to name a few. BTW - the latest hot rumor in the world of this rap music is that Eminem is going to "kill himself off" ala Jay-Z did in his last music video, and that they will be releasing an album together that is pure hip-hop and no mainstream sounding bull****.
I've listened to more rap this past year than I ever have, and it definitely started with Kanye West's debut (somewhat?) early in the year, so he's definitely a favorite. I honestly think he is a genius. Mayonnaise-colored Benz, I push Miracle Whips...love that line. Also like Blackstar, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Nas, and A Tribe Called Quest, in addition to the obvious Tupac, Notorious BIG, Rakim, etc...
I agree with the other old timers. You can't have a poll of the best rappers of all time and not include: the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, NWA, a Tribe Called Quest, and every other talent that came out before Tupac broke away from Digital Underground. When anybody on your list can touch the longevity of the Beasties, then they might enter into the conversation. On another note, I am glad no one mentioned Warren G, I had to listen to Regulators 2 or 3 times a day when my cousin used to drive me to school, and just hearing any part of it drives me insane.
1. Chuck D ( Public Enemy ) 2. Rakim - Eric B 3. EPMD 4. KRS 1 5. Cool G Rap and Polo 6. The DOC (The Doctor is a jam) 7. Ice T - Raido and Six in the Morning is the is on the for real tip. 8. The Getto Boys - Balls and my word, nuff said.
Barkley said the world is messed up when the best rapper is white and the best golfer is black. Now the best rapper is dead and the best golfer won't play with women.
