good point. i forgot about "Rapture"... with Blondie creepily walking around that set filled with colorful graffiti and Fab Five Freddie scratching away...
I didn't and was going to post her... but didn't think anyone would remember... Do you know who was painting the graffiti in that video? Jean Michel Basquiat... here's another link Downtown 81
Best Rap Songs of all time: 2Pac - Hit 'Em Up Biggie - Big Poppa Wreckshop Family - Power Up Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks On Me 2Pac - How Do U Want It Luda - Southern Hospitality
Good one. I forgot about them. At the time, they were so different from anything else out. Their style kinda reminds me of Eminem.
Damn Mr. Greezy, I was with you until Too Short. I think he really only has one song. Every last one of them sound alike. I think he just changes the music. Same iambic pentameter drone otherwise. lol.
not one mention of Jay Z in this whole thread? cmon... the man allegedly doesnt even write his stuff down he just flows and it comes to him... what a travesty no ones mentioned him...i dont care how pop he is... no one comes close boooooooooooooooooo.....
Its Defintely 2Pac. His songs mean something unlike majority of the rappers. I have his Best Of CD and there really isnt a bad song on there. Threres like 25 of them, I enjoy all of them. For todays rappers Nelly is by far the best in my opinion but he will never be no where near pac. I like Ja Rule and RKelly for the best music but I dont reallly consider them rap. So ill go with Pac
You mean the same iambic pentameter as... "say hoe....can I ax you a question....do you like to f*ck?" How ruuude!
Say hoe... yeah, you... can I ask you a question... can you get in where you fit in b#tch... -Too short
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Looks like the BBS has spoken. My fellow "esteemed" Red Sox fan's, who is fixated on the word "douche" and is a blossoming paranoia schizophrenic, poll on Eminem had 20 people say that they liked him or that he was good or whatever the hell that choice was out of 46 total votes. Real formidable.... Meanwhile, I even threw him a bone by including that no-talent loser, "Marshall Mathers", and he gets a pitiful 3 votes out of 40+ total votes. I wish that I had put in Chuck D now instead of Eminem.... However, I'm sure that my "buddy" will come up with some logical reasons like me and everyone else who don't like Eminem are "douches" or "douchebags" or that we are sheep or that we corrupted the server for the Hangout and rigged these polls. Or better yet, maybe a profanity-laced tirade from "Mr. 'I don't think that real athletes' play soccer". Okay, now with that being said, I want to say this. Contrary to what he believes or thinks, I don't enjoy or get a kick out of this. I think he is a good guy, deep down, but he is someone who has always been used to getting their way about things or at least comes across that way. Well, he has graduated and is now fixing to enter college. That's great and I'm happy for him. But I sure hope for his sake that he is nothing like his BBS personality in real life because if he is, then he is in store for some hard lessons in life. Nomar - I don't enjoy getting into pissing contests with you, but you backed me into a corner and called me out in your thread. And that is something that I'm not going to put up with. Period.
If "Best of All Time" means a combination of record sales/popularity and lyrical skill, I would have to give it to Biggie. But, I don't believe in one greatest rapper, I think of it as an elite group of the great rappers who are to many to list. Snoop fell way off, and Eminem (whom I'm not a fan of) is too new to the game. I personally would never give either 5 mics for any of there albums.
I think Nas's Stillmatic brought him back to the forefront in the rap industry. In the status quo he is definately up there. Creativity is the key to making music. And I think Nas has a good grasp on this as his mind ain't just on ice and cars with this album. Yeah Stillmatic isn't near as great as Illmatic but it still proves Nas hasn't lost a step with "One Mic" which is music genius. With an explosive guitar riff, melodic bells and a slow tempo drum loop. The beat automatically captures you but as the song proceeds the tempo gets faster and slower. This song proves why you can sperate him from your average rapper or crew. And its really got some mad lyrics that really illustrate what he's trying to get across. Even though albums like "It Was Written", "I Am.... The Autobiography", and "Nastradamus" weren't Nas at his best as they didn't live up to expectations at all "Stillmatic" proves he still has good stuff left to get out there because I feel he has regained and renewed his title as one of the best lyricists with his insightful street poetry. I think "You're da Man" and "Poison" are other good stand out tracks. Although tracks like "Ether" is what gets people killed over this stuff. Anyways for the time being I like Nas.
You should be strung up by your pubes for including Wreckshop and Ludacris in elite rappers like Pac, BIG and The Geto Boys. Ludacris is ok, but he has no where near the skills of those other rappers. And don't even get me started on Wreckshop.
RocketsPimp: I simply said these are my fav rap songs of all time...personally I dislike every other song by Wreckshop. That's like me liking "Without Me" and not giving a damn about anything else Eminem puts out. And who defines an elite rapper anywayz? These are all just my personal opinions...we're all entitled to them. Sorry if i declared them as "fact"...i purely meant it as personal opinion.
What about Juvenile and Cash Money? Nobody mentioned Mystikal, and he can flow with the best of them. Anyone remember Fat Pat? Dre and PAC are about even in my book. I love some of the older stuff from Bone Thugs (1st of da Month, Thuggish Ruggish, etc.)
he said rapper. . not producer . .. Dre could not Rap his way out of a paper bag . .. he has to have others write his stuff which is super weak Rocket River
