Is anyone actually listening to all these YouTube videos? Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos - Public Enemy Don't Believe the Hype - Public Enemy (samples I Got Ants in My Pants, by James Brown) Pretty much any song that samples James Brown is good.
Sorry, guys...not much "new school" stuff makes the cut. There are some crazy beats made by MF Doom/Viktor Vaughn...I'll give you that. The "old schoolers" used up most of the great beats by about 1993. Previously mentioned superstars such as "Peter Piper" and "My Philosophy" are really good suggestions. The Beastie Boys have been mentioned, but not their greatest contributions. "Paul Revere," "Brass Monkey," and "Slow and Low" all shattered what was then considered the foundation of rap (pre "hip-hop" lingo) beats. As for BDP, "My Philosophy" is a great choice. Ironically, I think some of their best beats didn't come until "Sex and Violence." An old-schooler, Dr. Octagon, shocked the world with his triumphant return a couple of years ago. The track "Aliens" may actually have the greatest beats of all time. Flame away... EDIT: Yes, I realize "Slow and Low" was a "cover" song of the RUN DMC "unreleased" track.
