Recently, I got into a discussion with a Knicks fan about who has the best pure scoring skills in the NBA. His argument was for Melo obviously , while I argued Lebron James because of his overall dominance on offence (post/wing/fast break). So therefore expanding the discussion, who do yall think have the best pure scoring skills in the NBA currently?

Brian Cook. He shoots the ball before he gets it.

I woould say melo. If its about getting the ball in the net one could say durant for his shooting ability with heigh.

But if one takes into account scoring versatility I say its melo. He can post up take you off the dribble and shoot.

Durant is the best scorer the nba has had since Jordan, it's not really close.

I understand the argument for Durant and in 20 years, he might have had the best pure scoring skills looking back, but my knock on him is that he has yet to develop a post game. Other people, like Melo or Lebron, can play the perimeter and the post, which makes them more lethal IMO.

The Durant hype is absurd. Lebron has had better scoring seasons on the Cavaliers. He scored more points with greater efficiency and he didn't have a top 10 player in the nba and a top 5 SG helping him.

Kobe for sure. Are you guys seriously saying durant? Durant's more of a pure shooter when compared to kobe. Kobe has a much better all round offensive game, durant would be second or third to dirk.

    Exactly.

Lets look at the categories for scoring:

    Most versatile scoring arsenal
    1. Kobe
    2. Dirk
    3. Melo
    4. Lebron
    5. Durant

    Efficiency:
    1. Lebron
    2. Durant
    3. Dirk
    4. Kobe
    5. Melo

    Best at volume scoring:
    1. Kobe
    2. Lebron/Durant
    3. Durant/Lebron
    4. Dirk/Melo
    5. Melo/Dirk

Scoring is not just purely shooting.... Its amazing that Lebron managed to score with such efficiency in the postseason when his jumper was so off.
Durant is probably the best jump shooter in the nba right now but not the best "scorer". Not yet anyway.

Durant averaged around 30 points per game, while facing arguably the best perimeter defense, shooting 55% from the field in the finals.

Durant is more efficent scorer than Lebron is or was. Actually most efficent player in NBA history with at least 3 scoring titles.

Where is the Jeremy Lamb option?
Clutchfans tells me he is the best scorer in the NBA and that he is Kobe Bryant.

    huh?
Durant is 3 years reigning scoring champ of the NBA, while having a "top 10 player" on his team jacking up shots.

I take this as meaning not who is the most unstoppable, because Lebron and Durant and Nowitzki are all unstoppable because of other factors like height, length, strength and leaping ability.

I take this as meaning who has the most versatility of scoring ability: range, off the dribble, midrange, low post moves, etc.

For that reason I vote Melo.
