So is everyone that went to Debakey doctors, planning to become one, or any other medical field? All of the Debakey kids I've met were either pre-med or in med school.

Same here. I think it's a high school for future doctors. All my friends from there are in med school.

I can attest to my class producing much more than just medical personnel. I have classmates who've turned into actors, models in LA, wives of NBA (and former NBA) players, famous DJ's, and even one who now travels the world dancing after he led Houston's own SoReal Cru on America's Best Dance Crew or whatever that show is.

Q, You wouldn't know me, I wouldn't expect you to remember any freshmen. I remember you used to run with Lance and them if I remember correctly.

To answer BrownBeast question, pretty much half of my class went into some kind of medical profession, whether it's nursing, pa or doctor. The top 10 percent at DeBakey get automatically accepted into Baylor Medical School. Sucks for them though, since a better medical school is right across the street.

All the Philippinos end up going to nursing school, that's a given.

    Which school is that?

Many people I know end up going to the Caribbeans for med school.

The top 10 percent definitely dont get into Baylor. The UH-Baylor program is for a small handful every year and that is some of the most political bull**** ever since its ultimately up to the principal to pick who gets in. And if you actually look at the failure rate of those selected, its pretty terrible.

Yeah, that whole thing is pretty stupid. Even some of the counselors/teachers think the program is dumb. Just curious, what colleges did you guys end up going to?

What failure rate for those selected, are you actively tracking who fails out year by year? Do you have any actual data to back that statement, because I know a lot of DeBakey kids who are killing it over there.

OK, since you made that statement, I'm gonna let you go first and provide the data to back that up, then I'll counter with mine. Annnnnd, go!

My high school, which used to enjoy such a great reputation, is not nationally ranked. Apparently less than 50% are proficient in algebra - yikes. When I was there we had good math teachers and a huge college prep program.

My kid's school (if we still live here in 14 years) is nationally ranked, though not super high. Still, it's the only one anywhere near this part of the state that even made the list.

I went to James E. Taylor, which used to be a great school but seems to have gone to crap in the past 6 or 7 years. Mostly just white trash from Memorial Parkway now.
