I LOVE lists! It feeds my ocd perfectly. I don't think though I'll be able to much contribute to this thread but I certainly approve of it. If we can come to a consensus and actually finish this list, it would be EPIC. Kudos to anyone that helps get this thing done. I'm serious.
So many good number 1 picks. Who woulda thought? Darn, torn up about number 4. CP3 or Dwyane Wade?? I'm gonna go with Wade, he's accomplished more than CP3 has thus far in their careers.
No way Jose! It was Darko! He averaged over 2 blocks per game in 20 min for one season! Look! http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3705/career;_ylt=Aqx.ER8XRinsTIcRXsbP2nDKPKB4
OK, I'd put Dream at #1 but just for grins, I'll throw these guys into the mix... 1. Oscar Robertson 2. Rick Barry 3. Pete Maravich 4. Dave Cowens 5. Walt Frazier 6. Lenny Wilkins 7. John Havlicek 8. Robert Parish 9. Otis Thorpe 10. Paul Westphal 11. Robert Horry 12. Julius Erving 13. Eric Floyd 14. Tree Rollins 15. Dell Curry 16. Jim Spanarkel 17. Doug Christie 18. Calvin Murphy/Joe Dumars 19. Nate Archibald 20. Larry Nance 21. Michael Finley 22. George McGinnis 23. Alex English 24. Sam Cassell 25. Mark Price 26. Vlade Divac 27. Dennis Rodman 28. Dan Roundfield 29. Dennis Johnson 30. Nate McMillan 31. Danny Ainge 32. Rashard Lewis 33. Kevin Duckworth 34. Norm Van Lier 35. Rick Mahorn 36. Maurice Cheeks 37. Nick Van Exel 38. Eduardo Najera 39. Rafer Alston 40. George Gervin 41. Cuttino Mobley 42. Stephen Jackson 43. Chucky Brown 44. Brian Cardinal 45. John Williams 46. Jerome Kersey 47. Vernon Maxwell 48. Craig Hodges 49. Darius Songaila 50. Larry Kenon 51. Jim Petersen 52. Fred Hoiberg 53. Rodney Buford 54. Shandon Anderson 55. Luis Scola 56. Amir Johnson* 57. Manu Ginobili 58. Kurt Rambis 59. Pat Cummings 60. Michael Cooper/Drazen Petrovic 64. Gerald Henderson 66. Michael Adams *Someone had put in Scola as #56 but NBA Reference has him at #55. So, I didn't look for #56 until I figured it out.
LMAO Durant @ #2! he isn't even top 10 second round picks of all time! off the top of my head Rick Barry and Jerry West, two of the all time greats should be up there.. UT homerism at it best lol
I'd have KAJ just ahead of Magic Johnson for #1 pick but both ahead of all the guys listed, I could put Wilt there too if I considered the territorial pick a #1 pick, it was a #1 pick in a sense, as the Warriors got the guy they targeted without anyone getting the chance to take him before they could. Bill Russell for #2 pick. West was not as dominant as Chamberlain so I can't take him ahead of Russell, especially if we are considering influence on the franchise as the main factor. For #3, I would consider Wilkins ahead of Pistol Pete in this context; Wilkins singlehandedly made the Hawks a playoff team while Pistol Pete played for a bunch of losing teams. Perhaps Charles Barkley belongs ahead of Clyde Frazier at #5 pick, this one is quite close and hard to debate because of era and position differences. But Clyde did bring the Knicks their 2 championship banners. I would take Willis Reed over Chief at #8. I would possibly take Sam Jones over both. Dirk is not a popular choice here at #9, but he definitely belongs. Fat Lever would go ahead of Horry for #11, but there is perhaps a better choice out there. As much as I think he's overrated, Steve Nash deserves mention at #15. Not sure how John Stockton got ignored at #16. English a great choice at #23. Gervin is a GREAT choice at #40. How about a shoutout to surely the greatest 117th overall pick of all time, Artis Gilmore?
Correction to my previous post: obviously Jordan is the best #3 pick of all time, I was just commenting on rimrocker's choice of Pistol Pete.
This comment made absolutely no sense to me until I looked at your public profile and saw that you were born in 1993. You should probably learn a little something about the history of the game before you go calling a guy who's been in the league for six years and never won anything the greatest #1 pick ever.
