-Two Rows probably was the worst non fast food burger ive had -House of Pies is anything but quiet after midnight, filled to the brim with hipsters. Probably during the day its quiet. -After 2am, Mama's across the street from chachos is less crowded though a different food genre. One's a Meal (Greek) on Westheimer&Montrose is my current favorite. The Gyro is delish. -Love Star, though my friend told me its not really Chicago style. I prefer Brothers on hwy 6 & I10 for 'new york style'
Lulling City Market on Richmond and ~610 is the best BBQ you can get. Just get one sausage link, wrap it up in a piece of bread, and soak it in they're incredible sauce and you've got a meal's worth for like 3 bucks. Jake's Philly Steaks > Texadelphia for a cheesesteak. Max's Wine Dive is pricey but the best comfort food you'll EVER have. (I work for a wine bar in the same company, so I might be a little biased El Tiempo for Tex-Mex. Pico's for authentic Mex. GiGi's in the Galleria or Cafe Chino for chinese. Palazzo's for really underrated italian. Brenner's for steaks. Hands down. Kenny & Ziggy's or The Bagel Shop on Hillcroft for deli. RIP Gugenheim's WhataCrank for late night.
Kenny & Ziggy's if you don't mind paying $15 for a sandwich!! The sandwich is piled like7 inches high, but still...$15 for a sandwich!!!!
Sign of the times. K&Z is the only real NY-style Deli this city has ever seen. Take it from someone who knows.
Italian - Pronto for lunch, Collina's for dinner Mexican - Chuy's for lunch, El Tiempo/1308 for dinner Chinese/Vietnamese - Ming's cafe for lunch, Mai's for dinner Cajun - BB's for lunch, Pappadeaux for dinner Bar Food/Burger Joint - Christian's Tailgate or Bubba's Seafood - The Oceanaire or Reef Breakfast - Breakfast Klub or Buffalo Grille Date Place - Black Walnut or Tiny Box Wood Healthy - Ziggy's, Ruggles, or Hungry's Greek - Niko Niko's or Yia Yia Mary's
Freebirds!!! -Best burrito in town. Mamacita's on NASA Rd 1 has really good nachos. Boudreaux's has really good boudan balls. Pappadeaux has really good everything.
I guess I'm suave enough to pull it off. Unlike, y'know, you, and your nerd-rage at people on BBS' over hamburgers....
there are so many fantastic italian restaurants in houston proper i find it absurd to even consider driving out that far for some
Maybe relatively speaking.. but Houston's worst food by far is Italian when compared to other cities.
K&Z is awesome i go with a jewish friend of mine every few weeks and we always split a rueben and a matza ball soup... we get out spending about $12 a pop which aint too bad anyways... mccormick and schmicks for happy hour and decent seafood del friscos for steaks (just had the 34oz. kobe bone-in ribeye two nights ago :drool) pappasitios or el tiempo for tex mex (ninfas on navigation is up there as well) thai village on richmond les grivals for vietnamese luling city market for bbq (ive never been to a lot of the older houston bbq institutions though) trulucks for seafood kiran for indian fusion (although ive been told indika is fantastic) onion creek for their personal pizzas, beer selection, and kick ass patio candellaris for pizza (and a shout out to brothers pizza in spring for the best NY style pizza ive had in houston) the taco truck the cruises by my house everyday for the best authentic mexican tacos tony's for upscale dining (cafe annie is very good as well) i have a personal bias towards amerigos for italian (never been to da marcos, arturos is great, sorrentos is very solid as well) benjy's for new american/fusion too many burger joints to name bb's on montrose has some great po boys i could go on and on, and there are dozens of fantastic restaurants that i haven't even mentioned b/c i've never been
you really think so? i've always thought houston had a very strong (if not relatively uncreative) italian restaurant scene
I don't have the personal experience to compare it, but everyone I know from the east coast and the midwest say our italian is terrible by comparison.
Da Marco's is one of the best Italian food restaurants in the US. In general, though, Houston's Italian is a weakness. Especially compared to the East Coast cities that all have Little Italy sections. There just aren't that many folks of Italian descent in Texas, honestly
word. Chicago/NYC probably have the best Italian food in the country. There are hardly any eye-talians in TX.
Pretty much true. The cultures we have represented strongly in this city do bring the pain in the kitchen though.
Hey, I'm trying to keep the expenses to a minimum, Tow Rows is a nice place you can go without spending a ton. I go to House of Pies for breakfast and sometimes dinner, if I was talking about going there after 2am I would have put it with Taco Cabana, Whataburger and Chacho's..... Pugs
