Not only that but there is really never a good time to buy. The model you get will either drop in price very quickly or it will be replaced by a newer improved model at the same price. It can be frustrating.

That's sorta how I got my TV. I saw the TV at Tweeters, did research on it, then went back and haggled $1000 off the price cause I bought the extended warranty from them. Turns out I needed that extended warranty cause a couple of years later a problem arose on that model that I confirmed others had on AVN.

Good point. It's tough, you get excited about a certain model, maybe continue to research etc, and then the "next version" of that model is upcoming for release and then you are left wondering "should I wait for it" or buy the current version?

I've had to put it off. My sister lost her job  so I've been assisting her financially and my girlfriend really wants to get new furniture before the TV. I hope something pops and I get to get it before the NFL season kicks off though. :)

Ill make a personal comment about that TV...
1st-thats last years model, IMO its better than this years
2nd-you don't need a TV with 120hz, most people turn that off so I wouldn't pay more for that feature

I'll be buying a new TV in August: I'm dead set on getting a Pioneer. I'm just debating between getting last year's Pioneer Elite or this year's Pioneer Non-Elite. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hey guys

I need some help finding a good HDTV

I am looking for a 67inch DLP. What are some of the better models? I know more about LCD tvs than I do DLP.

Get the Pioneer KURO, Elite KURO (if you have that kinda money).

the KURO line is suppose to be the best flat pannel you can buy.

    Conclusions
While the most expensive product is not always the best, the best will nearly always cost more. The new Pioneer plasma sets are clearly the most impressive consumer digital display's I've yet seen, lacking only the immersive impact of the best 1080p front projectors.

Tinman, I know you've recommended plasmas in the past and was wondering if you could help me make a decision. I've only done research on LCD's and DLP's.

I'm only going to buy from Costco and have narrowed it down to these two sets.

    Panasonic Plasma

    Samsung LCD

Both are exclusive to Costco, but the Panasonic TH-C50FD18 is equivalent to the PZ80U and the Samsung LN46a540 has the same specs as the a580.

I'm looking at the Costco summer coupon booklet and they will have the Samsung for only 1500 after coupon from July 28 through August 3.

I only watch sports and DVD's. I haven't seen any fast paced scenes on that particular LCD so can't comment on motion blurs,
but with the 5 ms response time I don't think I'll have much to worry about, even with 60hz refresh rate.

Please let me know what you think would be the better buy. Thanks

man that's tough. I like that the panasonic is a larger screen and better movie performer. however, if its $1800 vs $1500, you can use that extra $300 on a bluray player or a TV stand or something else.

I think the panasonic is the better tv for what you want also. so its tough. also its bigger. 50 > 46

I almost went with a similar Panasonic but decided not to because I think they are kind of hard on the eyes style wise. But the user reviews on panny plasmas are high.

Last year's Elite. I did the same recently and these TV's live up to the name. The black levels are amazing and they truly do make it a better experience.

    sorry to interrupt...

redefined, you should also notice that the contrast ratio on the Panasonic is 20,000:1 (which is slightly better than average) while the Samsung is 35,000:1 (better than the Panasonic).

the contrast ratios numbers are always debatable, you have to see them in person. the rule is that the contrast level is better on the plasmas cause the black levels are usually better.
