cause you keep pointing to walmart tvs. i wouldn't recommend you a tv with bad specs. if you want some professional reviews, check these sites out: http://www.hometheatermag.com/lcds/ http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/archive.asp?section_id=59&article_id=0 http://reviews.cnet.com/4566-6475_7-0.html?tag=dffl2_1&filter=500961_103914_ and for specs etc debate.. its what you put into your tv that's important . if you don't have hd, its gonna suck. if you don't set your tv correctly, its gonna sucks. it just seems you are leaning toward the low end brands instead of the big brands like sony, samsung, toshiba, panasonic etc i'm just curious why?
I'm sorry, maybe it's just because I know nothing about the subject and what is good and bad. I'm new to it, you know. I plan on having HD and the PS3 and Wii hooked up and eventually a 360 too.
no problem. how about sony? i know you originally wanted a dlp. there's sony's 3lcd which is similar. its a great deal (i have one of these). its a refurb from sony, but the features on this tv are way more advanced than any of those other tvs. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10151&productId=8198552921665262632&langId=-1 it accepts 1080p/24p (Which your ps3 does for bluray (in options)) this gives the film 24 frames per second at 1080p. what does this crap mean? it means you will have the smoothest movie image cause movies are filmed at 24 frames per second. its not wall mountable but its really nice.
Oh wow, so if I got a 1080p/60p or something besides 24p then my pic would look jacked up or not as nice as it should? I'll tell you what, when I am readyto actually purchase it I'll bring this thread back up. For now, I am going try to educate myself more on the whole thing.
well, no. its fine to the normal person, but to the video snob. 1080p/24 is the way to go. this is like people who buy expensive speakers, people can tell the difference between a $3000 speaker and $50 speaker. but then you get people who can't tell the difference or don't care. here's an example, i have a friend who knows NOTHING about tvs etc. he was watching a dvd and al pacino was super skinny. he never noticed. basically he didn't set his dvd player to wide screen and image was skinnier cause the dvd player thought it wasn't a wide screen tv. how about not setting the picture settings correctly? yao ming shouldn't have a tan. the rockets red should look like its about to blow up in your face red. how about not using the correct inputs? if you don't put it in the hd input, guess what? no hd. regardless if its an HD BOX. see?
Yes, I see. Well I am still going to educate myself and what I'll do is when I finally pick out the TV I want, I'll post it and get some reviews from you and hopefully others too. Thanks for all you input so far, I really appreciate it.
let me give you an analogy that you can understand. specs are not everything. this is like the dumb rocket fan vs the smart rocket fan. the dumb rocket fan sees juwan howard's 17points per game and automatically thinks that's what he's gonna do when goes to the rockets. the smart rocket fan knows that juwan sucks and more of his points are garbage time points and he plays bad defense. the dumb rocket fan doesn't appreciate maxwell. only sees his stats. the smart rocket fan knows that when maxwell played he was cursing out the fans, the entire opponents team, and he was never scared of anyone. there's no stat or spec for being a badass!

tinman, how are Phillips? http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_r...atalog&shop=OUTLET&AID=10303851&SID=sduidp0t0
I bought a Philips LCD for my parents about a year ago. So far, no problems. I heard mixed reviews about Magnavox (the other brand owned by philips).
I am back into looking at HDTVs again. I am swaying more towards Plasmas (vs LCD) as they seemed to look the best in the store (CC) last time I was there. The picture was just crisper. Been looking online as well. Anyone, and/or Tinman, have any thoughts on this Panny model, th-50pz85u http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Viera-TH-50PZ85U-1080p-Plasma/dp/B00142MUEM I would be upgrading from a 1994 46" Toshiba rptv that is about dying on me.
never trust watching stuff in a store, unless it's a high end place like home theater store or maybe magnolia at bestbuy. however, that tv you picked is excellent. for a 50inch tv, i think plasmas are a better deal than lcd.
That TV is popular amongst HDTV-heads. As an affordable, quality plasma. Get it and you should be good. Look at AVSforum though, it may have ghosting or dancing pixels. Lots of plasmas of that tier do.
second the AVS forum search I am shopping to replace my 50" Sammy that I am selling (go look in the Classified forum if you havent seen it) and I have been scrubbing AVS daily for real world info on the HDTVs. Now, Im a HUGE fan of Samsung LCDs, every one I have bought has been fantastic out of the box....and caused no problems since. What size you looking for? IM looking at 40-46" LCD, right now the best bang for the buck are the 5 series (xx530-xx550). Check em out, the feedback at AVS is pretty overwhelmingly positive. oh yeah, btw...I was looking at plasmas initally cause the price is lower than LCDs of that size and capability, but like Ziggy said...lots of reports of trouble with firmwares and screen issues. Id avoid the plasmas in the 40-50 range
