I believe it is this set: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8986957&type=product&id=1218005634319 I need to find recommended settings for it as well so if any of you know where to get them, please let me know. Thanks.
what do you have again? the ps3 and dishhd? check these dude's settings: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=36083 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=467933
I have a PS3 but no HD source from cable or satellite yet. Our contract with DirecTV is up in a few months and we're not sure if we'll be staying with them or going back to the cable company so that is why we have not setup any type of HDTV yet but we will here in the next month or so.....
your ps3/blurays will look great. you better upgrade dude. i know someone with dish and a nice 1080p sharp, never upgraded his service. cable/regular tv will look bad cause the flaws of the low res picture will show. you can always plug in any antenna and pick up the digital over the air channels, like nbc/abc. etc
We will eventually upgrade to HD the only question is whether it will be through satellite or cable. I know about the regular TV on HD sets. My friend got his last year and thought his TV was broke when the only problem was he was on regular ESPN instead of HD. LOL! Where can I get an antenna at? Will it still work in my area. The only local channel I get is ABC (KAIT) my NBC, CBS, FOX, etc. all come from Memphis (1 hour away) or Little Rock (2 hours) away. Will an antenna still work to get those channels as well?
dude the antenna is the cheapo antenna you can get anywhere for $5. the rabbit ears. i have no idea, depends on where you are and how good a reception you get on the regular channels. chances are if your analog fox or abc is fuzzy, you signal is weak for those stations. i have cable, stick to satellite.
Tinman what do you think of the Sony 52 inch XBR6? I have not seen it cheaper than 2250 on amazon. Seems like a freaking awesome set. I would consider a Sammy but i don't want the TOC color streak,
From my understanding if you play games but still must have a LCD then go with the Sony. I read they suffer less from input lag than the Samsungs.
Very nice. However, the kings are the XBR8 http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-bravia-kdl-55xbr8/4505-6482_7-33060615.html <object width="335" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.cnet.com/av/video/flv/newPlayers/universal.swf" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="FlashVars" value="playerType=embedded&value=50004291" /><embed src="http://www.cnet.com/av/video/flv/newPlayers/universal.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="335" height="360" allowFullScreen="true" FlashVars="playerType=embedded&value=50004291" /></object> and the Elite KURO http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-...o-pro/4505-6482_7-33002556.html?tag=mncol;lst <object width="335" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.cnet.com/av/video/flv/newPlayers/universal.swf" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="FlashVars" value="playerType=embedded&value=50003913" /><embed src="http://www.cnet.com/av/video/flv/newPlayers/universal.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="335" height="360" allowFullScreen="true" FlashVars="playerType=embedded&value=50003913" /></object>
Well after the first night of having my new HDTV I'll say the following. Digital channels actually look better on the set than on my SD set. Not sure if that was to be expected or not but it was nice to see. Analog channels on the other hand look pretty bad. I'm not sure if there is supposed to be a difference in picture quality between the two but you can see it. I expect to get HD after the Christmas shopping season is over with too. The set looks great when using my PS3 to play games, watch Blu-Ray, and even just regular DVDs. I was expecting this but to be honest, I didn't expect it to look this good. So much clearer, crisper, and cleaner. Just...WOW! The TV looks bigger in my living room than I originally thought it would so I am glad I didn't go with a larger screen size even though I was contemplating it earlier. Looks real good. The speakers are not the greatest in the world and do not produce great sound. You have to really turn it up to hear it when watching although switching the audio settings to Virtual Surround Sound did help a little. This type of problem was expected after tinman told me about the speakers but a nice sound system can fix this and it is in the works. The only thing I can really complain about is the speakers but like I said, that was expected and can be fixed. I'm not a HD junkie/snob like I have seen here or over on AVSForums so there may be some qualities others might say are missing or lacking but I don't see it. I give the set an A.
I told you regular tv would look terrible. this because its at such a lower resolution, and if you put that on a high resolution it show you how bad the resolution really is. My sony actually has decent speakers, but I only listen to my surround system. audio can get really complicated and really expensive. some people also don't want lots of speakers and wires all over the space. some people actually have their walls pre-wired. i guess pun, you want something simple and not too expensive. since you already have that ps3, you probably just need speakers/receiver system.
I just upgraded to HD through my local cable provider. I was already paying $60/month for Internet and basica cable through them since DirecTV does not have any of my local channels and with the HD package I got it is going to be an extra $40/month. I don't think that is bad at all for 20 HD channels, HD DVR, and the Starz lineup in HD. Yeah, I know audio can get expensive and messy. My aunt's house is actually pre-wired but she doesn't use it. My sound will get upgraded eventually. I'll be in heaven then. We'll see. I'll be on the lookout.
I have a really nice surround sound system I put together and to be honest the surround speakers are really over rated for the amount of work they do. Its not that they are not cool but the amount of content on TV that uses them is VERY low. I am REALLY glad I did not build a 7.1 system because even in Blu-Ray I think I have seen 1 that actually had 7.1 If you want to upgrade the audio on a budget buy 3 nice bookshelf speakers and use them as Left Center and Right channels. The improvement will be huge.
I'm going to pull the trigger on a new HDTV (preferably plasma) sometime in the next 2 months, and I can't decide what to buy. I fully expect to use this next TV as long as I have my current one (8 years), which is why this decision is extremely important. Right now, I'm looking at either the 50" Pioneer non-Elite KURO (don't need all the Elite manual settings) or the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800u, both of which get excellent reviews. I'm not sure if the KURO is really worth $400 more than the Panny, though, which is why I'm leaning towards the Viera. ($400 buys me a Blu-Ray player.) Then again, I'm not even sure if the 800u itself is worth the money over cheaper Panny plasma TVs.
so you have your hd cable and ps3 all setup? with some recommended tv settings? here's cnet's calibration settings for another sharp http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10081148-1.html?tag=mncol;txt i heard good things about these things, its decor friendly. http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=33953
the kuro is still a better tv than the panny. bluray players are cheap, i guess you are looking for one's with built in decoding and 7.1 analog outputs right? i've been scanning ebay on bluray players, lots of great deals.
Yeah, I got my TV setup with recommended settings. I got the settings from a thread over on AVS Forums. My TV does not have all those settings listed on the CNET link. HD won't be setup until next Wednesday though. The cable company has to come out and replace the wires. Will they hook up the HD DVR to an HDMI hookup or not? I really want to use the AV hookup for my Wii.
