I trust Sharp. They have some of the better TV's i've sen in the store. I'd just be afraid to buy anything like AOC or Vizio or Olevia but if you're getting a warranty I wouldn't worry so much about it.

Speaking of warranty. I read on AVSforums that a Mack Warranty is good. Anyone use it here and have any experience with it?

    Amazon Amazon Amazon.

No tax, free shipping + white glove service, and a couple hundred off the retail price from the stores. You end up saving a lot of money. I don't understand why anyone would buy one in-store.

you need to get the 73 inch hdtv. its 1080p, great sound and enormous.
i got mine from circuit city, and now a 58 inch looks small as hell

Display resolution (1080p) is one of the most overrated aspects of HDTV's or so I've been told and read. The 73 inch is indeed enormous, I saw it in the store last Saturday but I was unimpressed with the picture when comparing it to smaller TVs.

this is true, if you do not get hd channels from your cable provider it can be a little grainy. but the hd channels are perfect, watching movies on dvd or blue-ray are just as impressive. for me $2700 was not bad for having the biggest tv of anyone i know. great buy, look into it when its showing 1080p for a dvd or video game, totally different.

Well they were playing Shrek the Third on Blu-Ray and I was still unimpressed. Size isn't everything to me, if it were I would be looking at something larger than 50 inches.

When I get this TV I'll definitely need to upgrade my DirecTV package. Anybody know how much that will cost for the upgrade then monthly? Am I going to have to have two satellite dishes?

watching stuff in the stores also is not a good indicator of picture quality,
that's why they have those magazines and review sites. rear projection tvs and dlps also don't look good in stores, but one you get them home in a proper setting with low lighting than you can see the quality.

the worst thing you can do is judge a tv by the way it looks at the store.
the tv settings are all wrong and the feed of what they are showing can make an incredible tv look like garbage.

I did some research and Amazon has the HDTV I'm interested in for $1,970 + free shipping + no tax vs my local retailer $2,900 + tax.

    Online > In-Store

You can get basically the same deal as amazon with a little work. LCD's I'd be inclined to try and get instore in case of a dead pixel you can just throw that sucker in the car and go back. Chances are slim but ya never know. I got a RPTV so I wasn't too worried about that but it's nice to know I could go back to the store and talk to someone if I needed to replace the TV.

For instance the sammy 52A650 is currently 2099 at amazon and it was at CC for 2499. Frys had it on sale for 1899. PM it at CC which they usually do very easily and you pay 1839 and end up paying 1990.72 out the door.

Now dang it. I was told to go view them in store and now you're telling me not too. I viewed it several different places and was unimpressed, including a custom setup by pros. Not for me.

What are these 'dead pixels' I keep reading about?

its rare on tvs, but common on monitors, you might get a a red dot, that means its a dead pixel. I have one at home. it doesn't bother me, but my monitor is old.

Definitely do'nt go by what you see in store. They always throw the RPTV's in some back area with bright lighting and the source signal split to hell while the LCDs are sitting on a nice stand with a sound system and pefect lighting.

I just got my TV and it's huge!! 67" and the picture is great. I wanted the auto motion enhancement on the LCDs but in the end I could live w/o it for 15" of extra real estate.

I read 1080p is not noticeable unless you have a TV larger than 50" (check) and a blu-ray player (check) and sit fairly close (check)

get the LCD, don't confuse yourself. You have to read up on the tvs etc first, but it will look different in your living room vs the store.
usually better at home. I know people with Sharp HDTVs they are good.

DLPs don't look good in very bright places like a store. LCDs/Plasmas do look better in brighter areas.

keep in mind anything is better than your Emerson tv :p

the auto-motion stuff is something for LCDs because they have minor blur issues for very fast motions. plasmas and rear projections don't have that problem.

again, its hard to see the motion issue unless you see two tvs showing the same feed. its very minor now cause the refresh rates on lcds are really good now.

You had to bring up the Emerson. LOL! :D That's the bad thing about the 73 inch behemoth though, the pro setup was actually in a dimmed room and it still looked pretty damn bad but oh well I have looked and researched and the bigger TVs just aren't for me.

I'm going to ask the miss tonight about the TV and hopefully I'll have it by next week. :)

A few more questions. Is PIP standard now or is it still a luxury add-on with most sets? What about these touch screen remotes, what makes them different? Are they worth it? Anybody got any answers for my DirecTV questions above?

PIP? i never use that, but my cable box does that for me so i never use the tv for it.

look if you have a massive living room, then you might need a 73inch tv cause you are sitting so far away from the wall. don't get a big tv if you don't have the big space.

Just got back from Frys. Not sure if this was a good deal but it looked like one.

SONY KDL52W4100 120hz for 1849. cheapest on amazon is 2218. The Sony was sitting next to the LN52A650 in the SW Frys

Damn, your cable box does it? Which service do you have?

I stopped considering massive sets long ago. I'm just telling the person that suggested it why it is not for me. :)
