Munchies indeed. Totino's is just for people who are stoned. 28 grams of fat for cheese, 40 grams of fat for hamburger- yikes.
I make a damn good pizza. Bu t in you're ever in NYC go to Lombardi's in the village. The best pizza ever!
You gotta try Spaghetti Western on Shepard near I-10. Their Ugly is tasty, the Bad is meaty, and the Good is chock full of veggies. Plus you get a side salad for 2 bucks that is the size of your head. Pizza and salad special 6.95 for lunch, I swear you get half a pizza. Plus breadsticks!
I am a pizza FANATIC. Some of my formative years were spent in New Jersey, where there is a mom and pop pizzeria on every corner. They were those big, flat, greasy NY-style slices -- Yum!! We'd always stop off on the way home from school and get a slice or two. Oddly, I've found that the pizza places in malls (Roman Delight in the Galleria and Sbarro's) do a pretty good job with that kind of pizza. Also Mario's in Galveston is great. And for a Texas-native pizza, I love Mr. Gatti's.
If you ever find yourself in Manhattan (and not an outer borough), craving some some good pizza, head over to Arturo's (on Houston St.) or John's Pizzeria (on Bleecker). Gsal - I heard Lombardi's is really good (always a line there). Just haven't tried it yet... When in Houston, Fuzzy's on Antoine is the best. Antonio's Flying Pizza is also the ish.
Pizza Roma is good...but I don't go there often it's too damned far out. Star pizza is ok, but they've spent time on Marvin Zindler's report not long ago. Antonio's is REALLY good. What a great pizza. Buck's pizza on Bissonett is a good pizza at a reasonable price. Fuzzy's is the BEST pizza in Houston hands down.
Barbara Bush pizza at Fuzzy's: artichoke hearts, spinach, feta, grilled chicken Deep-dish wheat crust Star pizza with: grilled chicken, fresh basil, onions, mushrooms Collina's pizza is great, as are the calzones at N.Y. Pizzaria.
Totino's? Blech... all that sugar in the sauce... On the other hand, evidence like your post have suggested that, if they're looking for the "Best Pizza/Joint", then the best pizza/joint combination must involve Totino's.
I'd have to go with Fuzzy's on Mason Road, Antonio's Flying is always good, and Pizza Roma when it used to be on Wilcrest was terrific but their service now is horrible and the pizza isn't the same.
Antonio's, Barry's, Star, and Collina's are all good. Isn't Double Dave's @ Richmond & Greenbriar still open? (mmm pizza stick buffet) NY Pizzaria scares me. It's like a mafia family was in there when I was there. (fuggedaboudit) Cheescake Factory has some good one's too. I'm still stuck on CPK's Tandoori Chicken w/ mango chutney spread. (drool)
I don't think it's there anymore. Can somebody confirm this? If it is still there I will be there tomorrow afternoon. Ahhhh...Pepperoni Rolls.
DoubleDave's is gone from that spot. In one of the more bizarre switchovers, the place is now an Indian Vegetarian place called the Udupi Cafe. Good stuff...just a big shock (expecting grease, stayed and ate healthy) the first time I went there.
Udupi kicks @ss... be sure to ask for some dosai (pronounced dose-eye), it comes with the buffet, but they make it for you upon request. That stuff is good!!!
That's probably the place I eat most at....we order from mazzios like 3 -4 times a month I love their Quesa Pizza, Calzone Rings, and just regular pepperoni pizza.
Shotgun Dan's? Never would have thought of it as a pizza joint. Kinda scary when you first hear the name.....
I had a feeling that Dave's wasn't here anymore. In fact I went back to College Station last month for a day trip to take care of some business and made the pilgrimage to Univaersity Drive to go have Pepperoni Rolls. Damn those things are good.
Hey, is that the one on Eldrige near Westheimer? The one where you can play trivia w/ other people across the country?
I vote for Fuzzy's as best pizza joint in Houston. MadMax, like you, I grew up near Panjo's pizza. That place was incredible, but my recollection is a little fuzzy. When did it close down? I must have been 7 or 8 the last time I went there. Have you heard of Pipe Organ pizza? My wife's family is from Little Rock, too! I think you're about a year older than I am and my daughter is around the same age as your son. We have a 6 month old baby girl, too. So you and Mrs.Max better get busy!!! Did you go to SHS?
Don't know of any great places in Houston, but in Austin I frequented Gumby's , Conan's and Doubledaves. Where to start in NYC: Joe's Pizza on the corner of Bleeker and Carmine in the Village, right down the street from John's Pizza, previously mentioned. When you're in the East Village on St. Marks place at 4:00 in the morning drunk and hungry, go to Nino's Pizza on the corner of Avenue A. and St. Marks. This is truly my favorite slice in New York City. In my old stomping grounds. The sign outside says "I Love Nino's Pizza of NY" Sal and Carmine's on the Upper West Side on Broadway @ 102nd Street. Damn good slice. And finally, in my neighborhood, the original Patsy's restaurant on First Avenue and 118th Street in Spanish Harlem, since 1933. consider me a connoisseur of good New York Pizza, I Love it.
