My choice, you can't go wrong with Walt Frazier, with his use of hilarious adjectives. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UKcvLFpa_nU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UKcvLFpa_nU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Marv Albert would be my choice but the Isiah Thomas side puts him at #2 <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B3et6qAsOxo&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B3et6qAsOxo&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Jeff Van Gundy: he's got the one liners but borders on Bill Walton style hyperboles <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jGspbBUqPYI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jGspbBUqPYI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I think there should be a distinction between color commentators and play by play announcers. Both are in different categories. In terms of color commentators, JVG is hands down the best.
Doug Collins has a lot of perceptive things to say. I put him a notch ahead of Hubie and the Czar - o - strater - but a bit below JVG - whose sense of humor appeals to me.
Its difficult for me to compare play-by-plays with color analysts. Marv Albert is probably the best play-by-play guy because everything is natural with him. I like Mike Breen also, but Albert is the best. For color, JVG hands down. Hubie Brown is good as well.
The boring commentators were the ones from NBC when the NBA was on NBC. God those guys put me to sleep.
The funniest team was Tom Hammond, Bill Walton, and Steve "Snapper" Jones. That was pure hilarity. Play by play Marv is the best, so many catchphrases. "YES, and it counts!" "From DOWNTOWN" "REJECTED" Mike Breen I remember from the old Clutch City video whenever Starks hit a big shot "BANG!" Hubie Brown and Van Gundy are great as color commentators.
