That was the 1st awesome simultaneous co-op multiplayer besides Contra I can remember. It's too bad they never made a proper sequel to that.
For me, it's not even close. Descent II If anyone knows where to pick up the music from that game let me know, my cd is in two pieces
Mega Man III - Magnet Man's song is my fav video game song of all time up there with some of the Zelda tunes.
But au contraire mon frere, they did, it just was never released stateside. If you have a Super Nintendo emulator on your computer, try googling "Seiken Densetsu 3". I liked it more than the original, the game play is a bit deeper and you have the choice to pick a team of 3 out of 6 total characters. Now that I think of it, they also release a game called Legend of Mana for PSOne which was decent but not quite as good as SOM.
8-bit Super Mario Bros. 1-3, Zelda 1 and 2(most underrated game ever), Metroid, Kid Icarus - really set the standard and showed just how much you could do with electric bleeps. Honorable mentions: Mega Man 2, Castlevania 16-bit Zelda: A Link To The Past - Masterpiece. Sonic The Hedgehog 1, 2 - the first one had an early '90s urban pop kind of vibe that fit very well while the second one showed more variety and was even catchier at times. Honorable mentions: Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island The most recent game soundtrack to really blow me away was Super Mario 64, but that was 10 years ago already. The switch to instruments and realistic sounding synthesizers killed some of the imagination, IMHO.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. FF6 had one of the best tracks for the SNES. I haven't seen many other games with a 16 minute boss battle theme. Chrono Trigger wasn't half bad either. Streets of Rage 2 was a guilty pleasure. 16 bit techno trash beats never sounded better. I also liked the Silent Hill series. There's always a couple songs in every edition that stands out from anything I've heard before.
This discussion can't end without mentioning Donkey Kong Country: 2. I mean, hell, the soundtrack is half of what the game is even known for (besides 'ahead if its time' graphics and cool gameplay). No review goes without mentioning it. Very good stuff. Also, no one having this specific discussion should deprive themselves of the awesomeness that is this website: www.ocremix.org Enjoy
Yeah, there are some GREAT files there but you have to weed through countless pretentious Chrono Trigger and Sonic 3 Ice Cap Zone remixes to get to 'em. www.vgmusic.com has some gems, but all in midi format.
The music from the ambitious, but failed, Blade Runner game (they should have hired me for advice, the bloody fools!!), and I love the C&C techno stuff. A CD of just the music came with a set I purchased, and I give it a listen from time to time.
vice city, hands down! ....must have been something you said, ay? btw: this game is so much better than san andreas
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. the music is composed and played by the guru of electronic music, Amon Tobin. i don't play video games (very much) and i own this soundtrack. it's available on ninja tune records.
I second this- most fun game to come out in a long time. And it got me listening to AC/DC for the first time in years.
