Don't hold your breath for Sunshine. I watched it because I have a man crush for Chris Evans, but Damn did that movie suck! I thought "Meet the Robinsons" was quite exceptional! I wanted to be an inventor after walking out of that.
Considering it already won Academy Awards, I'd think not. My favs of this year - 1.) 300 2.) Knocked Up 3.) Hot Fuzz 4.) 3:10 to Yuma 5.) Shoot Em' Up 6.) Transformers
I, and critics would disagree. It got a 75% on rotten tomatoes, which means it did pretty good. I like sci-fi movies more than most, and thought visually this was one of the best sci-fi's ever. Just watch some of the youtube clips, then imagine that in a stadium style movie theater. And I really liked the story. So with that, Sunshine was one of my favorite movies of the year. Other I really liked: 3:10 to Yuma (best Western in 10+ years, no doubt) Knocked Up (haven't seen Superbad yet) Bourne Ultimatum (awesome series) HP: Order of the Phoenix (these are always well done) Hot Fuzz (these movies are hilarious) My wife really really liked Ratatouille, and I still want to see Into the Wild and Rescue Dawn.
Can't pick a favorite but here's a handful of some of my favorites of this year in no particular order: Knocked up Superbad Rescue Dawn Eastern Promises The Bourne Ultimatum Ratatouille Black Snake Moan Hot Fuzz Grindhouse
Of the movies that I've seen (I don't really see the indie-style Oscar contenders in the theater that much) 300 PotC: At World's End Transformers HP: Order of the Phoenix Sunshine The Bourne Ultimatum Across the Universe Not quite the best, but still good... Hot Fuzz Ocean's 13 Dissapointments... Spiderman 3 Die Hard 4 The Simpsons
This is England Such an awesome movie - strong accents though, so be prepared to pay attention. (released in 2007) The Lookout A good heist movie, with some complications. Air Guitar Nation I started off thinking this was a silly waste of time, but within about 5 minutes I was completely absorbed. It's a documentary about the Air Guitar competition. (released in 2007) The King of Kong A documentary about the men competing for the world's highest score in Donkey Kong. Lots of fun, and an interesting look at a rather strange group of people.
Wasn't big on movies this year: Good to Great 1. 300 2. Knocked Up Average 1. Transformers 2. At World's End Disappointed 1. The Simpsons Need to Eventually See 1. The Bourne Ultimatum 2. 1408 3. Order of the Phoenix (not big on Potter but I need closure) 4. Knocked Up (only saw half the movie b/c one of my friends got sick and we had to leave early-still loved the first half though) 5. Superbad
I just found out Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is out in Austin. If you live there, you gotta see this movie. Easily the movie of the year. Mr. Brooks was pretty good too. I am Legend and American Gangster can save this year But damn. It's been a bad year for movies... I was disappointed in Transformers and especially Spiderman 3
Of the movies I've seen, most didn't come out this year... Amelie Stranger Than Fiction The Insider Munich Borat Pan's Labyrinth The Kingdom Borne Trilogy (old ass movie) A Portrait of Dorian Grey As an aside, I never knew Angela Landsbury was at one point, remotely hot. And I'm sure I'm forgetting others
Naughty Nurses 17 Poker in the Front, PokeHer in the Mouth @#%$ the *$&$, Big %!$* 48 As for movies I saw in the theater, I didn't see many and didn't find many interesting enough to check out besides some of the blockbusters: Bourne Ultimatum 300 Transformers The Simpsons Seems like a slow year for critically acclaimed movies. I'll have to check out some of the movies people listed here.
Wow. I'll have to think about it. Two right off the top of my head that were really excellent are Children of Men and Once.
Mr Brooks was my favorite so far. Great movie. Some others... Reign Over Me Knocked Up Eastern Promises I liked the first half of Sunshine, the second half was too bizarre.
