First movie that came to mind is PULP But a movie that is sooooo good I could watch it OVER and OVER and OVER again end to end is Office Space T2 and Casino would be my other 2..
ok percicles, you listed mulholland drive as one of your movies.... i assume that means you know what ON EARTH it was about. Please Explain
I've heard Terminator 2 mentioned twice...Is there some rip in the space time matrix in which 1991 suddenly comes after 1994? One movie that hasn't been mentioned that I think is very underrated is Beavis and Butthead do America. I didn't laugh as hard during a movie until South Park came out...
lol, me too. has it really been 15 years since it's release? damn. also, why is it in threads such as these where the title asks to name ONE of the best of something, 90% of the posters name 5 or even 10?
The fact that I've been the only one to list Braveheart in 86 replies is pretty sad. Have y'all not seen it?
you know, i am not sure which is the best movie, but the Winter of 1999 has a bunch of amazing movies all come out at the smae time. American Beauty Magnolia Three Kings Green Mile All epics, all age a little more than I woudl have suspected, but it was really unique that all four were released in the same season. I thought Magnolia was really underrated.
Y'all really thought it was a bad movie? I find that hard to believe. Especially because it created so many copycats, afterwards. Gladiator Troy Alexander, etc. All of these were made due to the success of Braveheart.
I never said it was a bad movie, I just didn't think it was all that great. And of course people would copy it...it won Best Picture and many people love it. As the saying goes, different strokes...
Fun game. Two that I haven't seen mentioned: Hotel Rwanda and Ocean's Eleven Other favorites: Swingers Sideways The Matrix Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind American Beauty Good Will Hunting Brokeback Mountain Return of the King Revenge of the Sith Shawshank Redemption Syriana Memento Braveheart (although it hasn't aged so well, IMO. when i saw it as a college freshman i thought it was the Best. Movie. Ever. now, some parts seem kinda clunky)
It revitalized a forgotten genre. I don't necessarily think it created copycats. I'll give Braveheart credit for amping up the gore in the battle scenes. Can't think of another film up untill then that did that. It tested the limits of epic violence and found that the audience was ready for more gore. I found it a bit over the top, but as we found out with The Passion of the Christ it's just the way Mel Gibson likes things. Mel just needs to hurry up and give me my Mad Max 4 before he's old & can't run around a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
I agree with percicles, it more than likely revitalized a forgotten genre, it didn't spawn copycats. Gladiator did that... that movie spawned King Arthur, Troy, Alexander and Kingdom of Heaven. Just like Saving Private Ryan and Thin Red Line revitalized the war genre and spawned We Were Soldiers, Black Hawk Down, Enemy at the Gates, Windtalkers, etc.
Gladiator was just about a carbon-copy of Braveheart's plot. Up to and including both taking vengeance after their wives are killed, and both heroes dying at the end.
I love Donnie Brascoe, I think its the best gangster movie of all-time. I don't get why its so underrated.
