    Mels Diner in Tomball.

Also on Aldine Westfield in Spring, there is a Brookshire Brothers. Across the street from that store is a little place taco shack place.

Hickory Pit BBQ is off of 610 and Bellaire (or maybe it is Bissonet). Thats my favorite BBQ joint.

Bayou City Seafood and Pasta . . . great gumbo

Also Segari's . . . gumbo's fantastic, though the rest of the menu is a bit pricey

I just remembered a place which I have to recommend.

If you are into spicy seafood, then there is this Afghani place on Hwy 6 & Voss (I believe Sugar Land but I am not 100% sure) called "Voss Halal Meat & Fish Market." It is a butcher which also carriers/fries fish.

The place is a hellhole. You walk in and you will see a window, behind that are a bunch of live chickens in cages (tho sometimes they are taken down). If you plan on getting food from there, DO TAKE OUT. It takes a while to prepare so try to find it on Google and call your order in ahead of time. They only take cash/visa/mastercard.

There is this dish called Shrimp Katakat (pronounced cut-ah-cut). Get a pound of that (somewhat pricy but fricking good) along with a packet of parathas and it should be enough to feed a family of 2-3. They have other dishes (talapia, pomphret) but I personally love that particular dish (never seen it anywhere but these guys have it down, it is fricking good).

Just tried it out for the first time this past weekend. It was really really good. Their red curry was not super heavy on the coconut milk like most Thai places. The soup was awesome as well.

Pretty cheap and good TX sized portions.

For Indian, there are a couple of dhabas (food trucks, carts) called Tandoori nights. Really good food, but its sorta pricey for mom and pop.

Its basically a truck in the parking lot of a convenience store. Long wait times! There is one on Highway 6 somewhere close to Sugar Land and another in Spring somewhere.

Are you referring to the one in the parking lot of a gas station on Hwy 6 & Bellfort (might be Beechnut or Bisonnet, always get those streets starting with B confused)?

If you are right, THAT STUFF IS LEGIT.

This place is Afghani? I could have sworn it's desi (indo/pak) owned. Anyways, in that same shopping complex, there is a place called Afghan Cuisine. Mantoo, bolani, chapli kabob, Afghani lamb pulao, chicken kabob, and the eggplant dish are all bomb. I prefer this to Saffron although that restaurant is really good as well.

Edit: House of Kabob and Oishi gets my vote for the best hole in the wall spot. I'm in love with this Bosnian place I tried a month ago called Cafe Pita. Someone told me they were on a show on food network. All meat eaters must try Cevapi (beef sausage).

According to my dad, the guy who owns it is Afghani but speaks fluent Urdu (since most of his customers are Desi). I am not 100% sure to be honest. All I know is that the food is fricking good.

My family gets meat from them and I'm almost certain that they are not Afghani (judging by their English accent). Although, most Afghani people do speak fluent urdu and a form of farsi called Dari.
