Wow, this is a tough one... Tex-mex: Los Cucos Pappasitos Chuy's Mexican: Mambos Eldorados Arandas TWSS
Mammacitas next to NASA and the original Ninfas are both really good. Chuy's and Pappacitos are good too. A lot of it depends on what you usually order. For me, good salsa and tortillas are a huge part of the equation.
Pico's on Bellaire. I left Houston almost 10 years ago, and I make it a point to eat there every time I come back, usually twice a year. Excellent Tex-Mex and Mex-Mex.
i've never had their authentic mexican dishes...i think their texmex is borderline bad though. i like lupe, and i think that people think it's cool to say that pappasito's sucks because it's such a big chain, but i still think it's great texmex
I'll have to try that. Ha! All this talk got me wanting Mexican food so I went to get some here in San Diego. You'd be surprised how many places don't have chile con queso available. When I ask, they look at me crazy or bring out a small bowl of grated cheese. I gotta get home!!!
Pappasitos: it is a bit overpriced, but usually it's really good. Gringos: similar to Pappasitos but cheaper Eduardos: at Murphy and 90...haven't been there in a long time but it's a great hole in the wall. Bravos: Hwy 6 and Austin Pkwy ...good and cheap Chuys: few times I've been there I enjoyed it Casa Ole: for price it cannot be beat... the margaritas are cheap and surprisingly good...the red sauce is awesome.
