The Whopper was a joke... From the names, Malone was 1st pick. Yao needs aggressiveness, not fundamentals. Moses should teach him!
First of all, Great players do not necessarily make the best coaches. Ted Williams was one of the greatest players in the history of baseball but he sucked as a manager. Oftentimes great players have little patience for those who cannot grasp the skills that came naturally to them. Given Kareem's acerbic personality, he would not be my #1 choice. As far as Moses vs Hakeem. Moses made Hakeem better by playing against him. When you play against the best, that will make you better. Moses has never been the most articulate person and Im not sure if teaching him will have as much effect as playing against him. At this stage I doubt Malone could lead by example.
True. I was wondering about the language barrier (Moses doesn't say much). But, I think it's better that Moses would keep things (his words) simple. "Move here..." "Boxout" "Be strong here..." "Lock position here..."
The best "mentor" for Yao could be Shaq. When Yao faces Shaq for 2 years. Shaq indirectly teaches Yao what it takes to be the most dominant center in the world.
one more thing i would like to add.. He had shown he can be unstoppable in some games and he's just a rookie. Just imagine once Yao developed the strength and obtained a little of Shaq's mentality with all that skill and smartness. Who's on earth going to stop him?
RIET - Are you confusing this with stoic? In the post retirement interviews I have seen of Jabbar, he has a fairly engaging personality. I actually see some similarities to Yao...quiet, focused on court while personally engaging in public. IMO, Jabbar has mellowed a lot of the years.
