I tried this place out for the first time last night. Their chicken tawook sandwich is really good. Saffron off 59 and hillcroft is a Afghani restaurant now. It's really good imo. They still have some Persian items on the menu.
Maryz... hummus is good and so is the babaganoush (sp?) Go there a few times a year to feast on the food and light up the hookah..
second this. great food, nice restaurant. I used to eat lunch there about once a week when i was working on that side of town
If you like Mediterranean food, you should try out Bosnian cuisine. Specifically Cafe Pita in the Westchase area. They have been profiled on the Guy Fiere's show on the Food Channel and all the other major Houston papers. The place is hidden in a corner of Westchase, but is usually always packed. http://cafepita.weebly.com/ <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pCrH-Q8vNJs&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pCrH-Q8vNJs&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Every time I'm back in town, I make it my first stop.
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it out today, and it was quite good. I'll probably be going back on occasion now.
I'd rather go to House of Kabob than go to Dimassi's. This is the Walmart of mediterranean restaurants.
Just wondering but what is considered Mediterranean food? It seems to mostly be Greek but Mediterranean could encompass everything from Egypt to Spain.
Istanbul Grill and Deli on Morningside (next to Little Woodrow's). I had some eggplant/lamb/yogurt concoction and it was delicious, as was the baklava.
Second on House of Kabob. Best hummus I've ever tasted. A friend introduced me to it a while back, and afterwards I took my coworkers there and they all loved it. It's a little place, not much in the way of ambiance (just a wall TV showing soccer), but the food is gooood.
The best shwarmas I have ever had are at a little place called Jerusalem Groceries on Hilcroft. I been to Bijan's which was good to. Dimassi's in Houston are great, but the location in Austin is AMAZING.
