You forgot Best BREAKFAST TACO. This is "Villa Arcos" on Canal, between Milby and Jensen. You're lucky if you can get your order back in 20 minutes, for there's a long line early in the morning. There's a choice every morning, except Mondays, on Beans, cheese, steak, potatoes, sausage, or any combination of the mentioned, inside a succulent, hand-made flour tortilla. Add green picante sauce, and there's no match.
Chance, here are some pretty good Mexican restraunts around Magnolia(If you haven't found them already....;-)): Rancho Grande-on 1488, just down the road from the intersection at 1774. Los Fuentes-on 1488, the oppostie way from Rancho Grande(I love their Pollo Loco!!) Ranchero's-Never been, everyone says it's good, though.Somwhere off of 2978, in the Bear branch area. There is a new restraunt coming in at 2978@1488, it's called something like Llama's or something. There are many more in Tomball, too. There you go, stop eating Taco Bell, and start eating some real Mexican Food, boy.
Best damn Mexican dish in the city- Shimp and crab enchiladas at El Pueblito, Richmond just west of St. Thomas University.
You needn't have gone beyond this one. That is some of the best Tex-Mex I have had anywhere. I bought some big platter with beef, chicken, and shrimp fajitas with Diablo shrimp and grilled veggies. Ohhhhh Tommy likeeeee. Thanks for the heads up. Let's get a beer in 6 years.
Personally, I like the soft taco at taqueria arandas. Simple. good. very cheap. I get the fajita taco (flour) with lettuce, tomato, pico, sour cream. you can add cheese or guacamole, i don't. About $ 1.35. two for 2.70, plus tax, w/water, free chip and salsa, plus tip for waitress. Sometimes is get the torta instead. very good deal at $ 2.50. There's also gorditas aguascalientes nearby on bissonett. I've lost my taste for enchiladas.
Great thoughts so far, everyone! I went back and included the "items" I missed. Feel free to post entries on the new ones.
Del Pueblo rockes the friggin house man! Intersection of Jones Rd. and Grant. AMAZING FRIGGIN TEX-MEx!!!!!!!! Fah - git- as rok!!!
Mr. Mooch: It is good. Very decent, actually. The place is very similar to a mexican Fuddrucker's. And that's not a bad thing. Not fantastic, but it is good food, and definitely worth a try.
I want to dine with Fatty FAt b*stard.... It sounds like an amazing experience. If you could only venture to Austin and hit Kerbey Lane Cafe at 2 AM you would be in pancake heaven baby!! They rule!!!
Actually, Drewdog, that is possible. My college sweetheart lives in Austin, and I typically venture there about twice a year. (we're just friends now, but she'll never set me up with her friends. hmmmmmmm.) Anyway, I'll try and remember this, and post to you next time I'm up in Austin. BTW, are you single?
Best fajitas-Pappasitos Best salsa-toss up, I like almost all mexican places salsas in houston Best chile con queso-Jose's Dip at Molinas Best tex-mex for your buck-Chipotle, Taco Bell might be cheaper but considering what I eat I get better food and just as full at Chipotle Favorite Mexican restaurants-Los Cucos in old Katy, Molinas on highway 6, Pappasitos anywhere, Lupe's is good but impossible to get into most times of the day. Favorite enchiladas-Enchiladas Verdes, molinas
Along with Magnolia Cafe, the most overrated restaurant in Austin. That's exactly what I hate about that town, they hype up everything as being awesome, but nearly everything's mediocre. Except for Hula Hut, of course.
Kerby Lane is not overrated IMHO. Where else can you get an omelet with chicken and cheese with blueberry pancakes, with the blueberries IN the batter thank you very much. I love that place. Magnolia on the other hand, is very overratted.
