While not a huge fan of the genre, One is my favorite.

    HA!

I am tryin to keep from posting these days so please in the future dont make such assinine statemnets that I must respond to.

Enter Sandman is not even the best METALLICA song...much less the Best Heavy Metal song...not even close...not by a LONG SHOT.

Metallica was nice enough to actually have balls back inthe beginning...but by the time of the "Black" album...they had them snipped in the interest of being non-threatening to the corporate masses.

I could pick any random song by *real* metal bands such as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Ozzy's Blizzard...just to name a few.... that would easily be much more heavy metal than the best thing that Metalclaw has put out since One.

    Holy Wars...leading into Hangar 18

possibly the best one-two punch on a Megadeth album.

In My World, Madhouse, and Got the Time(cover) - Anthrax

Damage, Inc - Metallica I also always liked Disposable Heroes

I also agree with the Holy Wars...Hangar 18 - Megadeth picks

Sober - Tool - I don't even think it is their "best", but I have always liked it.

    Other stuff....

No doubt about it. I've been listening to that CD alot lately.

Going old school here to fit the bill.

    Quiet Riot - Metal Health

BANG YOUR HEAD! METAL HEALTH WILL DRIVE YOU MAD!

Yeah, see the list of Metallica songs I posted earlier. IMO, they peaked at Master and have been downhill ever since.

Anything by Slayer and most other satanic metal bands. That's real metal, raw power, you feel it. Now for "G" rated metal I would pick any pre 1990 metallica.

    Slayer - War Ensemble (duh)

Hatebreed - Empty Promises (most recognizable hardcore/metal song ever)

Dillinger Escape Plan - 43% Burnt (insane drums)

    Old School?

Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues 1969
    MC5 - Kick Out The Jams 1969
    Alice Cooper - I'm 18 1971
Black Sabbath - Iron Man 1971

I would propose to you also that The Who's 1970 cd Live At Leeds
would be considered Heavy Metal and is definitly a high energy masterpiece.

    But I'll vote Crazy Train.

    Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The why that I want you to die
    Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
    Forced in
    Like cattle
    You run
    Stripped of
    Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
    Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
    Sadistic, surgeon of demise
    Sadist of the noblest blood

    Destroying, without mercy
    To benefit the Aryan race

    Surgery, with no anesthesia
Fell the knife pierce you intensely
    Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die
    Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
    Infamous butcher,
    Angel of Death

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
    Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
    Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
    How long can you last
    In this frozen water burial?
    Sewn together, joining heads
    Just a matter of time
    'Til you rip yourselves apart
    Millions laid out in their
    Crowded tombs
    Sickening ways to achieve
    The holocaust
    Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
    Deep inside of you
    Abacinate, eyes that bleed
    Praying for the end of
    Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
    Your blood running cold
    Injecting cells, dying eyes
    Feeding on the screams of
    The mutants he's creating
    Pathetic harmless victims
    Left to die
    Rancid Angel of Death
    Flying free
