I still haven't made a purchase since my original thread... but I am heavily leaning towards these: http://www.headphone.com/headphones/in-ear/etymotic-er-6i-white.php
the HD280s are closed, but are NOT noise cancelling or isolating. Obviously it's still better than open ones, but if you listen to you music at a high volume, people around you will be able to hear it.
You lucked out, best bang for your buck no doubt about it. You would have to go up into the $500's to get any sound quality increase.
I love headphone threads. People just say stuff without anything to back it up. the Denon's I linked would be a significant upgrade.
Considering the price that I bought them at, it was well worth the price. They aren't worth $350. Skull Candies are not bad either... I've used those before also... but they are better for gaming than music.
well in my opinion these are the best because they are the most expensive. Link im joking. but those are pretty funny though
I have gone through 8 $12 skull candy earbuds in the past year. They may work fine, but not for very long, they all die in a little over a month for me
I have the old Sennheiser HD 570 and the Sennheiser PX100. The Sennheiser PX100 is an awesome headphone for its price range. I have to modify the Sennheiser PX100 because it damn hurts my ear if I wear it for long.
Sennheiser is a great brand. I've had the HD-280s for years and they still sound great. I bought mine for $100 like 5 years ago.
My info is from personal experience. I don't know how much 32 dB is, but if I had gotten these headphones thinking they were noise cancelling, I would not be happy with my purchase. Of course, they block out some sound, but I'm wearing them as I type and I can still hear muffled sounds coming from the TV in the next room, which is at a reasonable volume. All I know is that they are definitely great headphones, and that they are definitely not noise cancelling, at least not compared to those Boss headphones they demo at Fry's.
I tried out those Dr. Dre Beats headsets today. (solo) and the inner ear ones. Damn those have some amazing sound to them, and the bass! Our store just got a display of them, and man. I'm wanting them now.
sennheiser hd-25 II (not SP). under $300, durable, good isolation and good sound (amped or straight into headphone socket). Audio Technica ESW9 around $300 Audio Technica ES10 larger drivers colder but more detailed sound than ESW7(a little over $300)
If you're talking about the Monster Turbines, then absolutely go for those if you can find a good price. Probably the most worthwhile Monster product out there.
