I always liked the Ultimate Chesseburger at Jack in the Box, but there's no JITB's on the east cost. :(

I enjoy Miller's Cafe (on Shephard). Also, the Longhorn Cafe downtown (is it still there?) had a burger called the (I think) Fidel Castro which was delicious. It had habenero peppers and bacon ground into the meat.

Juilia Childs on Larry King rerun said that In and Out burger was her favorite burger place, so they must be good.

There was a place in El Paso (I think they closed down) called Char-Burger or something like that. Simply Awesome.

Forgot about the green chile cheeseburger at Blake's Lotaburger in New Mexico. Yum.

BTW, I love Bellaire Broiler Burger, Whataburger, Tookie's, and multiple other burger joints. Never been to in and out burger, or Lankford grocery, so I can't comment on those.

My favorite burger has to be at Fuddrucker's. Try mine, if y'all, can, and then tell me what y'all think.

First, I ask that my burger is cooked medium-rare. This cannot be emphasized enough. Do not overcook your burger!

Next, I dump pico de gallo and jalepenos all over it. I always have that stuff falling out of my burger as I eat it.

Finally, I pour the jalepeno cheese sauce all over the top of the bun and smush it all down on itself. I get fries, and eat them with the pico, cheese sauce, and jalepenos that fell out.

In my opinion, this IS the best burger ever.

    Try it. You'll like it.

    I went there yesterday. :D

What other burger places do you like in NYC?

edit: To contribute to the topic, when I lived in Houston, I liked Annie's, Southwell's, Fuddrucker's..

for fast food types (which should be a different category, IMO), you can't beat Whataburger.

P.O.'s is kind of like an ice house, but more kid friendly.

Its not too far from Stone Gate. Just drive north on Barker Cypress, across 290 and past Randalls till you hit Jarvis. Right on Jarvis to Telge. Right on Telge and it will be down on your left.

Its kind of a hole in the wall place with a dirt parking lot. But their food is good and their beer is cold.

Are you talking about Char Burger in Deer Park? It's still there, on Center St. I've lived there for the last 15 years though and i've never tried it. It just looks dirty, and from what others have told me it's not very good.

Whataburger is my favorite chain place, although I eat a JitB Ultimate Cheeseburger on occasion. I'll also get a Wendy's TX 1/4 lb Cheeseburger if its late and I want something cheap. I tried In-and-Out Burger while in CA and was unimpressed - tasted just like a Sonic burger to me.

Of the local places, I like Rudyards the best.

Adrians in 5th Ward makes one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. Its been a while since I've had one but they make them so big u can barely finish them.

Seeing all these posts talking about In and Out is making me want to go to CA just to eat there.

I was told that in Nashville the best burger place is Rotier's. I will need to check that one out.

I went to Adrians after the review in the Houston Press last year. While it was A MAMMOTH burger. (1 lb) I wasn't that impressed. The meat tasted bland, and I'm not a huge fan of burgers with mayo, lettuce, tomato.

Just came off as a big burger lacking in taste.

    Houston's (as I said before)
    JG Melon's
    Chelsea Grill
    Outback Steakhouse (good for delivery)
    Wollensky's Grill

Getting a good burger is not a problem in NYC.
Getting even decent Tex-Mex is damn near impossible...

True, very very true. My sister's family moved from Houston to New Jersey in 1999-2000.

Each time they come to Houston to visit, Tex Mex is a must do for dinner at least one evening.

My sister's two oldest daughters were in town earlier in the summer. I took both of them (seperately) to Taqueria Arandas and they thought they had died and gone to heaven. Hell, if I'd have taken them to Chuy's or Ninfa's on Navigation, they might have gone into convulsions.

I am on the West coast where there is an In-N-Out pretty much every block. Sad to say it is just not my type of burger.

I'll take a Fuddruckers burger over any other any day of the week.
