He's getting inflated one year deals because he's cooperating with the Sixers and only signing 1 year deals. They get to keep preserving their flexibility. People here laughed that he would take a paycut, but Redick is an MLE player. He's getting these huge deals because he's agreeing to take one year. Nobody would give him say 4 years 70 million.
oh i get it. but thats what i meant as in, he was supposed to get a PJ tucker type contract. JJ is now getting what PJ is in just 2 years while PJ has 3 more years to do so
Just a theory, but I'd like to see what you guys think. 1. We can presume barring injuries that the Rockets will be a 60+ win regular season team as constructed (assuming Capela is back) without adding any big names. 2. There will likely be some big name wings available at the trade deadline from teams that are out of contention and inclined to tank. 3. Anderson's contract gets easier to trade with each passing day as it gets closer to the final year. 4. The Rockets uncovered some extremely valuable players who were largely overlooked by other teams last year by giving MLE / Vet Min guys like Tucker, LMaM and Greene significant minutes in D'As system. 5. Unless I'm mistaken, Houston has all their future 1st and 2nd round picks (except their 2019 2nd) as trade bait. 6. The Rockets may be one of the easier teams in the NBA for Rookies to have impact (simple offensive system, focus on defense, players outside Harden / CP3 / Capela / EGO don't have to carry a big load) and the Rox have two quality rookies this year that can potentially contribute. Given the above, I think Morey may go bargain shopping during Free Agency and set aside minutes so that the team can play a number of guys at the wings in search of this year's Tucker. Then at the trade deadline, once the team knows what they have on the squad, he can put a full press on moving Anderson's big contract + picks to get an impact wing back in trade. As many people have pointed out, you can't just sign people - you have to have a comparable salary to move out to get a star player back. With Ariza gone and assuming the Rox sign Capela to a $20 - 25M / year deal, you have limited options in terms of moving players. You aren't moving Harden, CP3 or Capela. EGO is one of the best value contracts in the league right now and you can't get a true star for 13M in outgoing salary anyway. So the Rockets NEED Anderson's $20M contract to have the assets necessary to make a big trade (like what OKC did for Paul George) possible. So I'm not going to freak out if Morey doesn't make an "impact" move in the next few weeks. There will be a lot of players excited to jump to the Rockets at the trade deadline for a legit shot at the finals. In the meantime, I hope the Rockets play a deep rotation and let a bunch of guys including our new rookies get some meaningful time on the court.
Agree with 90% Coyote but can we really assume #1? Dallas got better (and will improve as the year moves along), Phoenix appears to be getting better (potential addition of Love), LA certainly got better (adding Lebron improves them regardless of my opinion on their other head scratching moves), OKC is a wash - but San Antonio "potentially" gets worse. I guess what I'm saying is the west is going to beat the hell out of each other all year long. I'm not convinced we'll be in the 60+ win group, but I'm not sure it matters. I think the big lesson from this year was health AND record....not just the 1 seed. Not picking, just rethinking my expectations after the past couple of days. I would settle for health and home court in Round 1.
(1) Anderson + Onuaku + 2020 2nd + 2021 2nd to Atlanta for Bazemore + Dedmon (2) rest of MLE to LMBM (3) Melo to Rox after OKC buyout (4) sign Shabazz Napier to 1 year deal CP3 - Napier - Melton Beard - EGod - GG from Htine Bazemore - LMBM - Hartenstein or Clark or Edwards Melo or Tolliver or Johnson - Tucker - Qi Capela - Dedmon - Nene Melo starts and plays 18 - 20 minutes per game with a green light to shoot from corners. He knows Tucker closes games - unless blowout - when we need defense. If no Melo, Anthony Tolliver or Amir Johnson in the same role. Htine ship
Although I don't expect an impact grab by the rockets, please stop saying oh let's wait near the trade deadline for players to come join us. LAst season our best season in a while, we got injured Brandon Wright and old man Joe Johnson as reinforcement from trade deadline

How the Hell are the Rockets not involved in this? We are suppose to be getting all the top free agents..... whatever happen to that?
I can understand Lakers (since they just got Lebron) and Warriors getting a meet but Hornets too? wtf. Rockets should definitely be in that convo. Warriors just getting more stacked every off-season because KD keeps taking huge paycuts.
Rockets will be better assuming health holds up: 1. Full year of CP3. Remember when Harden & CP3 & Capela shared the court, Rockets were 50 - 5 (!!!). 2. Capela took a big step forward in the playoffs. If 2018 - 2019 Capela is the guy that rocked KAT and Gobert, that's an upgrade. 3. Tucker playing starter minutes. I think that's a +++ 4. EGO had a bad year and should rebound. EGO undershot his career 3pt % by a significant amount last year. 5. We won't lose two games to Memphis again. I am sad to see Ariza go, but I think we can replace his defense (more Tucker / LMaM) and offense (more Tucker from the corner + Greene) even if we don't bring in a new 3+D wing of his caliber. And I may be overly enthusiastic about our rookies, but I believe both will provide value off the bench this year. I am not concerned about the West. Lebron to the Lakers impacts only a couple of games for Houston. Nothing much else has changed IMHO. The Rockets beat everyone last year and they will do it again this year.
We didn't need anyone signficant at the deadline last year. We were the #1 seed and killing everyone. If you are somehow suggesting that Morey isn't capable of swinging a big deadline deal, I have no idea how to respond to that. Morey built a 65 win team from scratch when no one wanted to come here. He's a genius. And, Anderson's contract was harder to move last year and the Rockets didn't have their own 1st round pick in the upcoming draft. Hard to make an impact deal under those circumstances. This year Morey will have a lot more flexibility / assets to make something happen.
