In terms of sheer amazement to watch, Dream Shake takes the cake. I've defended guys that did that (not as good as Dream, of course) and it's really hard cus whichever way you go he'll just go the other way. It's like picking your poison, which in my case was stay put and get my hands up. I think the Sky Hook is really effective only because of his height. Had they all been the same average height, maybe 6'6"ish, the Dream Shake would've been more usefull. What about Big Shot Bob's camping outside the 3 for 48 minutes waiting for that big clutch shot? seems pretty effective to me..
there are two reasons for the dream shake taking the cake. first no center ever, before or since, had the grace, class, and drive of this man. second this is clutchfans, anyone who votes for another player is a sinner! DREAMSHAKE FOREVER!!!
I'm a Rockets fan just like the rest of you but c'mon. Let's try to put things in perspective. Kareem's skyhook without question is the best go-to move of all time. That was a move that Kareem invented and had changed the game. What makes that shot the best? First of all, nobody could execute that move with the accuracy that Kareem had. Many people have tried to duplicate that move including Magic Johnson with his baby hook. However, NO ONE could duplicate or guard Kareem one on one with that move IN HIS PRIME. It was UNSTOPPABLE. As much as I love Hakeem's Dream Shake, the Sky Hook was a graceful yet unstoppable move. The Dream shake was great because you didn't know which way Hakeem was gonna go so there was always that element of surprise to that shot - but it wasn't an automatic shot, not even during his prime. Kareem went at you relentless and opposing teams knew exactly what was going to happen each time but nobody could stop the SKY HOOK.
I don't think of Jordan's signature move has a fadeaway. It was breaking the ankles of the defender and simply elevating over everyone for a midrange jumper. That was unstoppable until he lost much of his hops at the very end. Kareem's hook is the easy choice, with a release point several feet above the rim. Kareem's hook was simply not stoppable at all. You could simply try to prevent him from ever catching a pass in a spot where he could go into it.
The Dreamshake was not one move...it was a combination of multiple moves. The best go to move of all time was Kareem's sky hook. It was always the exact same motion, and yet nobody figured out how to defend it.
There seems to be confusion over what the Dreamshake really was. The series of pivots, spins, and up-and-unders that was Dream's trademark was devastating, but I'm fairly sure that's not the Dreamshake. The Dreamshake was simply a fake middle, reverse pivot fadeaway jumper, usually on the baseline. What made it so effective was Dream's great jump hook. I still had to vote for the Skyhook.
Olajuwon introduced a new line of spins, fadeaway shots and jumpers, and he became virtually unstoppable on offense. The man called "Hakeem the Dream" had now developed a set of patented moves involving great footwork with ball and head fakes with either his back to the basket or facing opponents abusing defenders. All of which became known as the "Dream Shake." http://www.nba.com/history/players/olajuwon_bio.html
kareems sky hook did pour in the most points in nba history but i love the dream shake! HTML: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I37j3YHAvLw HTML: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc02Z4-0wDM&mode=related&search=
