Oh, and does South Park's original animated Christmas card to their friends count? 1992 I remember only a handful of my friends had good internet connection at that time and we hovered over a small moniter to watch it and all other episodes. "jesus vs santa" came later. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BAqP-ESq2bA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think LOST is the overwhelming favorite for best pilot episode. It's a true shame how many missteps they took in the later seasons....could have been amazing (and it was for some people), but the ending was seriously underwhelming and the plot just got way too convoluted.

wow, thanks for the memories. rep. Miami Vice broke new ground with applying the equivalent of music videos to a TV show.
Breaking Bad prob. is the best pilot ever, and that season I believe was cut short due to the writers strike... The Wire was more of an introduction, just like every one of their 5 seasons, since each plot would revolve around one specific entity, and dive into the corrupt world of the drug world in Balt.-The Wire was just a great series, and maybe a top 2 series of all time, but Pilot episode wise Breaking Bad just sucks you IN RIGHT AWAY!
I actually liked the pilot of "Chuck" a lot. Can't say much for where it went after that. I wouldn't nominate it for the best, I'm just reminiscing over pilots.
Did y'all watch this. It's less than 4 minutes. "They Killed Kenny" was originally Eric Cartman who got killed. I think this is bigger than LOST.
Not best ever....but the first episode of Last Resort was pretty over the top entertaining. Granted I have 5 other eps on the DVR and havent watched any of them but the first one.......so again, not greatest ever by any means.
