Look at what Magic could do at 6"8" ....did he have the lightning first step ? no ....And he had deceptive speed.....but he kept guys off balance.......along with that amazing courtvision. I'm not saying Earvin wasn't a phenomenal athlete, because he was .....finishing off those breaks at times flushing from the middle/ above the rim for the first 5-6 years...But again he kept EVERYONE off balance and was the engine/coach on the court that ran the Lakers....probably would be my first choice in starting a team...
Iverson at his prime had the quickest first step. It's his change of speed that gave him a good crossover. SO uhhhh Iverson for the win. Now the best CROSSED-OVER goes to JJ Redick
A thread about crossovers and no video... I really don't care for Iverson that much but this right here is pretty amazing. I have to agree with other people, not just based off this video but from what I remember watching... He had one of the fastest first steps and crossovers of all time... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LvVB5wOBpUI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
He had a good first step for a wing player (can't compare to a pg), but unfortunately his lack of handles hurt him.
ai for the first 2, off balance is hard because you have people like mj, who weren't all that good off balance but could remain on balance in situations a lesser man couldn't. What really constitutes off balance? MJ's contorted shot is on balance, similar to paul's leaning scoop, the ability to convert the bull**** shot may well be AI too.
Michael Dickerson had the quickest first step I've seen on a Rocket. As for overall, AI, and crossover, Tim Hardaway.
These guys are the best at ever at it, but in there days were pretty good at it. Allen Iverson, MJ, and DWade are often mentioned. First Step: Gilbert Arenas Isiah Thomas Adrian Dantley Hakeem Olajuwon (as far as big men go) Monta Ellis A young Tracy McGrady Steve Francis (in his prime) Crossover: Pistol Pete Maravich Earl Monroe Off-Balance: Julius Erving (Dr. J) Hakeem Olajuwon (as far as big men go) Earl Monroe Kevin Johnson Bob Cousy
I like that list. Pistol pete might be the greatest ball handler ever lol. Might wanna add him to off-balance too. I think he was so good with the ball he was never actually off balance lol....
Totally Agree. He could almost be the poster child for this thread. As far as big men go, I think you could add Kevin Garnett (first step) and Ralph Sampson (cross over and leaving defenders off balance). Tim Hardaway, another great, speedy ball handler.
