wachovia has their rates til end of sept. also, if you open a money market account, their rates are 4.84 for 6 months and keeps it liquid. Their 6 month cd is 5.35 and their 12 month is 5.21 (close to it). Theres no reason not to stick money in there if you dont need it right away.
i've wondered the same thing... no min. balance, no fees to move money in and out, and most have APR's comparable to any CD.
Are the interest rates for those savings accounts locked in for the lifetime of the account? What fees are there? Is there a fee for withdrawing a large amount? Is there a fee for closing tha account?
