I've always admired a 250 pound man with Dreadlocks who can consistently sound like he's imitating a 5 year old girl while getting kicked in the nads.
If I had to pick one it would be the New Pornographers, a band I was introduced to on this site, by that woman from New Zealand via Louisiana whose nickname I don't remember.
Radiohead My Morning Jacket Christian Scott which is sad... as it shows the sad state "rock" is in these days.. and no.. The White Stripes, Strokes, John Mayer aren't cutting it for me..

That’s it! Thank her for me if you wouldn’t mind. I would have heard about them eventually but it was kind of fun to hear about them here first. If’s she’s still into the alternative music thing tell her to check out this link. http://radio3.cbc.ca/
Nevermind, I forgot about Interpol and A PERFECT CIRLCE PWNS MORE!1 Yes, I'll also be in the general population at the Interpol concert next week. Sweet, it is. Edit- If we're going LIVE bands, Muse, APC and The Mars Volta top 'em all.
The Decemberists A few other honorable mentions: Interpol Kanye West Lyfe Jennings Jens Lekman The Zutons The White Stripes
The Sounds are great. They have really good live shows. Billy Talent, I haven't heard in ages. Are you Canadian by any chance? I don't know many American fans of Billy Talent.
My list begins and ends with Interpol. But some honorable mentions include: The Strokes Death Cab Franz Ferdinand Sufjan Stevens Mew Royksopp Junior Boys Arcade Fire Coldplay Beirut M.I.A John Mayer Kanye Ratatat Bloc Party Arctic Monkeys
Here are a few other that would be high on my list but haven’t been mentioned here yet. The Weakerthans Destroyer Broken Social Scene Neko Case Young and Sexy
i think the best representative for the decade as far as "body of work" and "cultural significance" goes to the White Stripes. and also, for a different name, i like where The Black Keys are headed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHeF2lFO3IQ
