How and why people think Fuddruckers isn't fast food astounds me.

How is it any different than Taco Cabana or any other fast food joint?

no drive-thru. there is no drive-thru at any TC I've ever seen. i've seen them at JCI...at TC they're a given. if you don't have one location with a drive-thru, you're not fast food. :)

    i'm pretty sure that's a law.

    MadMax and Kaizer:

By those definitions, Cliff's or Princes or Otto's isn't fast food. Jakes Philly Steaks wouldn't qualify either.

There should be a drive through at Fudds. But that's not a disqualifier.

And it takes as long to get a burger at Fudds as it does at Whataburger.

That combo #1 is not filling enough, and it's 5.19. We're talking about regular-size little dogs here that can be eaten in three bites. I would need to add at least one more chili dog to that for 1.59. Now you're at 7 bucks for 'fast food'. I personally don't need the fries - maybe 4 chili dogs @ 1.59 would be okay with me, but then you still need a drink - now you're close to 8 bucks. I'd probably still do it on most days - I love how they cut up the onions so small. But why do they put YELLOW mustard on their NY style dogs?

Why Fuddruckers is not fast food:

    1) Quality of food is superior to fast food
    2) Food is not prepared before you order it
    3) Speed at which food is made after ordering it
    4) Large parking and large building are necessary given longer food consumption times
    5) It's interior decoration is not limited to a large yellow bubble slide and a jungle gym
    6) It has a butcher area where you can view the meats as well as a bakery and dessert station
    7) It has a salad bar where you put on your own condiments and vegetables

I've never spent more than 6 bucks there. To each their own.

Every definition here fits Taco Cabana, and yet nobody's complaining that it is still here.

Taco Cabana's buildings and parking lots are tiny! Ever been to the one on Montrose and Westheimer? Their food is nasty, it's made in approximately 10 seconds, it has the nappiest salsa bar you've ever laid eyes on, and the bathrooms are filthy. The interior decorating at a Taco Cabana is nothing more than concrete floors and Corona-logo'd table tops. GROSS

Yeah, but that's taste preference. At all the restaurants, you go in and order at the line, you get your ticket, and when your # is called, you get your food.

Same exact pattern as Whataburger, Jack in the Box, Popeyes, etc.

If you think a restaurant is crappy, great! That is what this poll is for.

But I still say my definition of Fast Food is accurate in relation to Fudds.

Actually, at all those places, you stand at the counter while they prepare your food. That's the whole point: It's fast. You don't leave the counter until you get your food. The attendant that takes your order, in most cases, goes and fills it as you wait.

At Fuddruckers, you get that little box that lights up when your order is ready. It can take a long time for that thing to light up. No one waits at the counter. Everyone goes, fills up their drinks, and sits down. Very slow process. Definitely not fast food.

I'm not sold of Fuddruckers as fast food either. The drive thru / no drive thru seems like a pretty easy bright line test. Oh well, it'll get voted off in the next round anyway.

Maybe its me. I order a 1/3 lb. medium rare burger. I typically get it in less than 4 minutes.

I'm wondering if I have the unfortunate experience of walking into only the crappy Taco Cabanas in my life. Because I have yet to see anything good come from there.

Breakfast tacos are a joke; a sliver of food in a paper thin tortilla; enchilladas are watery and lack any real taste, fajita meat is nothing spectacular and is often accompanied by barely-fresh sour cream and guacamole.

Is there something on the menu that I've missed that the rest of you know?

    /end taco cabana rant :D
