That was fast! I opened one account on the web when they didn't ask for my CC info, and I have heard nothing since the obligatory "Thanks for applying" e-mail sent immediately afterwards. I opened another account via phone and I am still waiting for my CC to be charged (they asked for CC info that time). I'm checking out the talk on the DVDTalk forums and so far no one who opened an account on the web and was NOT asked for CC info has received any further information except for the initial e-mail. The thinking over there is that those applications may have been dumped. I don't want to take a chance of opening another account though, so I'm going to wait it out at least a week before taking further action. By the way, thanks for the heads up Sonny!!!!!!!!
Regarding Unbreakable You guys must like Comics or something, but the Comic book movie genre has never interested me. I don't mind it when Kevin Smith includes so many comic book references but a movie that is billed in the previews to be some sort of grand scale drama and then boiled down to an unrealistic portrayal of a real life comic book saga is theatrical hijacking if you ask me. I don't mind sci-fi in movies or things that are strange and unusual, or even magical, but it is nice if they are somewhat believable. That movie was Unbelievable at best and a supreme let down.
Miracle Mile. The couple is in a helicopter, sinking in the La Brea tar pits, LA is going up in flames from the nukes, and Anthony Edwards is trying to make his girlfriend feel better by telling her that a direct hit could turn them into diamonds. She says, "Yeah...Diamonds" then WHAMMO!!!! Nuke. movie ends.
I loved the ending of Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker found out that Darth Vader was his father... OOPS! Did I spoil it for everybody?
I've gotta pick this one. Best ending ever (and was even ripped off by Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, though not set up as well as Butch Cassidy).
That is the made for tv movie with Steve Guttenburg right? The US/Russia fight over Berlin then nuke each other right? It has Jason Robards and it takes place around Kansas City, Mo I think... I had never seen that movie until a year ago or so, pretty cool even for an older flick.
you guys have mentioned all the best, but, The Wicker Man is another one with a great ending. highly recommended.
I started reading Alas Babylon one night before going to bed...had to read the whole thing that night because I was too scared to go to sleep.
MadMax, I am assuming you listed signs for its religious overtones. Here's a question I had after the movie, if a guy as religious as Gibson's character starts questioning his religion after a tragedy, wouldn't finding out aliens existed kind of make him question even more everything he has been taught about God?
it certainly spoke to me pretty strongly because of those SPIRITUAL overtones. i can think of times in my life where I've felt that events certainly led in a certain direction with a sense of purpose in and of themselves. i had a pretty strong emotional reaction to the end of that movie, i'll admit readily. why would aliens make me doubt in God? i don't assume to know all of God's creation...on this planet or elsewhere. why do you assume that aliens wouldn't come here and tell a story very similar to man's experience with God? let me also say, i did not have that same sort of experience with the end of Seven! then i just wanted to go lay on the couch, hold my wife and watch cartoons.
