Braveheart- you can't beat that whole speech by sir Robert the Bruce and throwing the William Wallace's sword. There is no better ending in movies for me. Casablanca-"Louie.... Resevoir Dogs-Buscemi outlasts everybody and gets the jewels and of course Dumb and Dumber-"You'll have to forgive my friend, he's a little slow. The town is that way." -the bus of chicks drive off - "Some lucky guy...."
UGH! second. worst. movie. ever. Only Sherilyn Fenn herself was able to top that stinker with the worst movie of all time -- "Boxing Helena." Come to think of it, that movie had a pretty unbearably contrived ending as well.
Fight Club The Empire Strikes Back The Way of the Gun Soul Survivors Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
I agree with UNFORGIVEN and LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. If anyone who loves films has not seen MANHATTANby Woody Allen, I think that movie has the best ending. There is something in that last scene that just makes me reevaluate my entire life everytime that I see it. I highly suggest it if you need a life overhaul.
One of the most overlooked, under-hyped, underrated movies EVER! They're showing it on HBO now. I'm still waiting for Richard Kelly's next movie. As far as endings, there's too many to pick just one, and I like them for different reasons. The ending of Seven was possibly the most unsettling I've ever seen. The Matrix had the "baddest ass" ending ever. Recently, I thought About Schmidt had one of the most touching, understated endings. Usual Suspects probably has the best twist ending. But for the best all around satisfying ending, I would have to agree with Manny and say the Shawshank Redemption.
Arlington Road had the sorriest ending to a movie. It dragged so bad in the middle and at the end, the hero gets screwed. Just ruined it for me.
I think also a movie w/ a bad ending was Signs. I got confused at the end, but the BBS came through and explained what the hell was going on.
Speaking of endings, is there anyone else who really doesn't like movies with ambiguous endings? Or those that just end before they explain anything or go anywhere? I realize it's supposed to be an artistic statement, but I'm always irritated that I watched something for two hours that got nowhere and didn't even make much of a point. I wonder why I invested that much time in it. These movies should come with a disclaimer on the poster and the video box: "Warning - no ending."
I don't want to sound like a smart ass, but I saw the Usual Suspects ending coming at about the middle of the movie. I can't believe most people didn't see that coming. Especially after Spacey's whole thing about how the Devils biggest trick or whatever he said was to make people think he doesn't exist. 6th Sense on the other hand, had me floored like most other people. I hadn't been scared by a movie in a long time until I saw that.
Warning - no ending. You really liked this ending? Some of the reviews I read criticized this movie because of the ending alone, and I agree with them. What did you like about it? I know it had the whole unknown aspect to it where the movie ends right before it shows what happens, but the only problem was that everything before then didn't leave enough of an impression for me to really care what happened. Now, how's that for a scathing review?
Speaking of no ending, I watched Mullholland Drive this weekend, I am not into the abstract. I can't believe I couldn't think of this movie, anyone seen a movie called "Shattered", great ending. "Reservoir Dogs" "We're all supposed to be professionals"
Same here.....I saw the ending of Usual Suspects coming, but Sixth Sense got me. I had a buddy that claimed he saw the Sixth Sense ending immediately. I was kinda jealous.....but then again, I certainly wouldn't have enjoyed the movie as much.
Blazing Saddles 6th Sense---agreed Shawshank Redemption---agreed with Manny's reason Planet of the Apes(original) Seven---agreed (I didnt think he would actually kill him) 8 Heads in a Dufflebag Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (predictable, but still good) and even tho I'll get laughed at and it was predictable..I liked Armageddon..
I didn't like the movie that much, DCKid, even though I enjoyed it the same way I'll enjoy any John Sayles movie (which reminds me of Lone Star's ending...gross!). I'm just liked the ending for some reason. Trust me, everyone I was with, including Major, hated it.
