Yeah, it's stand up but still... Pretty damn hysterical... My favorite bit from the movie... <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tQM0XqvzAC0?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tQM0XqvzAC0?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
This was tough for me. Trading Places is one of my top 5 movies of ALL time. It is by far my favorite holiday movie of all time. But his performance in Coming To America is the reason I selected it in the poll. 48 hours and BHC are better movies as well, but Coming to America was his high point. Unfortunately after that it was pretty much all downhill.
I rewatched "Coming to America" not too long ago, and while there are still scenes that are very, very funny (Soul Glo, Sexual Chocolate, etc.), much of the movie felt very dated and formulaic. I find that as I've matured, the film has not aged well. "Trading Places", on the other hand, is still edgy and funny, and many of the scenes still have a ring of truth to them. Plus, Jamie Lee Curtis takes her top off. I'll go with "Trading Places".
Thread alrdy exists with poll I agree with you as you agreed with me in the original thread. Some how Bowfinger made it onto neither poll.
If we're including stand-up specials, I'd probably go Delirious. But I don't think we should, so my vote goes to Trading Places.
1. Raw 2. Trading Places 3. Coming to America 4. Beverly Hills Cop 5. Boomerang - I may be in the minority but I still love this movie.
Although technically is a film..I wouldn't have included RAW in this poll because its a standup routine and not a story-based film. Overall, I'll Take Trading Places, with Bowfinger 2nd. Although I do agree that Bowfinger is highly underrated..especially Murphys performance.
I chose Beverly Hills Cops but I actually really liked Life. Two of my fave comedians together though Martin wasn't really that funny and Eddie had to carry him. Martin has the straight man=thumbs down. But overall it had its fair share of funny moments and a decent story.
Heh so many people beat me to it already. Bowfinger really needed to be in the poll - Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy should have teamed up in more movies, it really is a great comedy, great ensemble cast, and very clever too. Murphy pulls off the double role beautifully.
