Carter is the highest leaper and has the best showman dunks IMO so I can certainly understand people saying he is the best. The problem is most of his dunks were wide open or where a guy tried to take a charge or ducked out of the way. I just think the dunk is about powering over and/or through someone to get the bucket. Jordan was the best at that and Dominique is second. Both of these guys dunked in heavy traffic. Nique did it by hanging in the air long enough to let his man descend before he dunked. Jordan flat out went right through a guy's chest and over his arm to dunk it. Jordan, to me, was the best combination of speed, hops, power and huge hands. Only Mike dribbled coast to coast, paused, blew by a few guys and then from out of the crowd exploded and posterized someone who was not only looking to block his shot but a lot of times looking to put him flat on his back on the court.
My opinion sort of goes along the lines of yours: There has never been more of a dunking showman than VC. That highlight mix is unbelievable. But the late 80s had the best dunking trio ever: Drexler, Nique, Jordan. Over, around, through, it just didn't matter. I think it is easy to say Jordan is the best dunker because it's nearly impossible to seperate Jordan the player from Jordan the dunker. In my opinion though, Jordan was no better than Nique or Drexler when it came to dunking, he was just the far superior basketball player. By the way, has there been a superstar that's been forgotten as quickly as Vince Carter has?? It's almost like he has totally disappeared.
