The most beautiful dunk that I ever saw was by Hakeem or Akeem back then. I don't remember the team he was playing against but someone shot the ball and it bounced off of the rim. The Dream took off at about the free throw line and leaped over everyone getting the offensive rebound and the put back all in one gracefull and powerfull motion. I have never seen anyone jump so high over the rim and from so far away.
The best dunker who ever played for the Rockets? No question, Clyde. The best dunker as a Rocket? Probably Steve. The Rocket who had the most dunking ability, according to observers? Derrick Chievous. The Rocket who had the most dunks? Moses or Hakeem. Best all around? Steve or Hakeem, depending on the style you prefer. If Steve had bigger paws and didn't lose thae ball so often going up, it'd be him. As is, people forget the force of nature that was Akeem Olajuwon going to the rim before he got all the moves. Power and agility, baby.
Stevie Franchise! Yall remember when he got UP the first time he was in the dunk contest? He was in the final 2 with Vince and I say he was screwed! He was the highest jumper out of all the participants, he got UPPS!
Robert Horry. I wish I had a scanner. Look at SI, page 37, June 19, 1995 and SI, page R37, July 4, 1994 souvenir edition. He would always raise his brow up like he was surprised and would go up with the ball cocked completely behind his head.
it was as a King, but. . . Kenny's back-to-the-basket, between-the-legs-bounce-off-the-backboard slam in the dunk competition was F-R-E-S-H.
If we're talking about best career dunker to ever play for the Rockets.. then it's Clyde. If we're talking about the best dunker for the Rockets.. then it's Francis.
The best Horry dunk was when he clanked the dunk off the rim, but, while still holding onto the rim, he caught the ball with his other hand and dunked it. He was called for offensive goaltending, but it was still sweet.
Hakeem's (or Akeems) rookie year, we were in Boston Garden playing in the Finals. Something happend where the Smeltics lost the ball and somehow Akeem got the ball on a break away. He ran like a gazelle and just before he dunked it, he showed the ball to Ainge (or whoever was running behind him) and then slammed it home HARD. Hakeem never showed anyone up, but Akeem sure did!
Smoking pot and playing pro sports is a bad mix. He's just another tall guy in the league right now. The Desire does not seem to be there and if one does not have the desire when one first enters the league, I do not think one will ever have it. Though without any desire for the game, Griffin still has the talent to peak out as an average to a little above average player. oops, looks like being a idiot and posting is a bad mix.. this post was meant for the "My Bold prediciton on Eg thread" sorry 'bout that.
I don't know about best dunker but Horry's opening dunk in game 7 against the Knicks was an indication of how the night would go. We never trailed in that game. Horry had style dunking the ball. I think Francis has some awesome dunks as well but the Horry dunk sticks out in my mind.
Dream had a dunk I will always remember. It was latter in his career after he stopped dunking so much and so hard. Actualy it was when Clyde was here but after the championship I belive, anyway; It was a brake-away where he was thrown an ALLEY-OOP to the rightside of the paint. Insted of him just catching it, he caught it flying through the air flying almost horizontal (like superman), UPSIDEDOWN!! He caught it for a reverse dunk with his back facing the floor and did it with grace and style. I remember it also so much do to the fact he hardly dunked anymore and I was suprised to see him get up let alone style with it. All he could do was smile ear to ear as he jogged back down the court.
