No offense, but I know lots of Jr High kids who could play that. They might not look as cool as him, or play with 4 sticks (not sure what the point of that is), but they could easily whip that out in one take...

Travis Barker = the Anna Meagan Riley of drumming.

Sorry, not a big Travis Barker fan...

Agreed... I remember a kid in middle school (back in the late 80s) that could play like that. He went on to play in metal bands, but his drumming was very one-dimentional.

He's may not be the best but he is one of my favorites - Ginger Baker. What he does on a very basic drum set is amazing. I loved Cream's music from back in the 60s but I saw one of those PBS concerts and Ginger was still going at - only this time he had some serious old man black socks.

    Best is a strong word.

Dead, I'll go Art Blakey, Buddy Rich, and Max Roach.

I hardly ever listen to new jazz, so I don't know who's on top today.

Some great rock drummers: Terry Bozzio, Damon Che, Rey Washam, Tony Nozero.

Guy Patterson of Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters. You saw what his drumming did for that band.

    Seriously...Neal Peart, hands down.

I can't listen to Geddy Lee long enough to have an appreciation for Neal Pert. I really don't understand how anyone can listen to Rush.

Two of my favorites that haven't been mentioned are:

Tony Thompson of Chic and I'm somewhat surprised to see no one mentioning
the late, great Al Jackson Jr. His beats and rhythms on Al Green's Call Me album are so smooth, it seems effortless.

I mentioned him in another drum thread. One of my all time favorites. No could lay down a groove like Thompson. I was depressed on the day he died.

Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. The man is amazing. At the very least the best drummer right now.
