No sorries bro! I was playing along...I don't really know what "the cats ass" means except for a more vulgar or sarcastic way of saying "the cats pajamas"...come to think of it, I don't know what that means either!!
the sixties is pretty strong as far as number. "get smart", "the munsters", "I dream of Jeanie", "green acres", "andy griffin" those are considered by classics.
I use to love that show I don't recall the Finale. . what happened? Rocket River . . this is Darrel . .and my other brother Darrel
This explains it in more detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newhart#.22The_Last_Newhart.22 But the short version is that the show, "Newhart" turns out to be a dream by Bob from the "Bob Newhart Show".
I forgot about that, that was awesome. I was gonna include both shows in my intial post, probably two of the most underrated great sitcoms in the history of television. on the first newhart, some of the all-time great characters.
I still believe the ninties is weak, but another strong one from the decade is "The Larry Sanders Show"
It's a tough call between the 70's and 80's. 70's Sanford and Son Good Times All in the Family What's Happening Happy Days Kotter Bob Newhart Show Jeffersons Brady Bunch Three's Company 80's Diff'rent Strokes Family Ties Facts of Life Soap Too Close for Comfort Charles in Charge Growing Pains Valerie/Valerie's Family/The Hogans Cosby Show Out of this World If you look at the competition, they are very close, so I simulated on my "Norman Lear's Sitcoms 07" on the 360. In the end, the 80's won on the Growing Pains theme song sung by Houston's own BJ Thomas and Jennifer Warnes with 0.1 seconds remaining in double OT.
the problem is too many of the shows y'all are listing from the 60's and 70's as great are not. in fact, most of them are pretty crappy. of the ones i've seen listed from the 70's, only all in the family, happy days, three's company, and taxi are somewhat quality. and mary tyler moore, which hasn't been listed, is probably my favorite. the jeffersons and MASH only work occasionally (though considering it's massive appeal MASH has to be considered a classic). all the rest suck. and the 60's are even worse. so many hokey, stupid shows. except for dick van dyke. which could be those things, but was still good. from the 50's the only one i really know is I Love Lucy and that's definitely great, but only one show can't win it. the 80s had Cheers (tied for my favorite show) but since i could never get into Cosby it's hard to give that decade a vote. then you've got the 90s with all-timers like Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, and The Simpsons and 3 quality seasons from Cheers and a few more from everybody loves raymond to boot and i don't see anyway this isn't a runaway for the 90s. add in Fresh Prince and Saved by the Bell and there's no doubt. even a throwaway show like Just Shoot Me i find to be funnier that almost anything from before the 90s except Cheers and Lucy. maybe humor has just changed that much but being 24 years old, most of the stuff from before the 90s doesn't just seem dated, i don't even know how it worked back then. it wasn't as witty or fast-paced or something. it's nothing compared to the shows from the 90s i mentioned. the 00's have just had too much reality stuff and other crap and went away from quality sitcoms for too long to be mentioned, although scrubs is epic and two and a half men is very nice.
Definetly the 90's..... ofcourse half the stuff I watched in the 90's was stuff from the 80's though because back then TV sucked ass in Saudi Arabia.
Even if the 90s only had Seinfeld (which wasn't the case, there were other shows), it would be enough. Seinfeld is that good.
