In all fairness, they did allow for a certain legend to partake in one of their music videos. :)

Bob Finn is my hero. I bow in his general direction, facing north by northeast.

That band that had a CD with a big yellow cover and some guy stepping down on you. I thought that was pretty impressive for a first CD.

Good call. Can't believe I missed that one. Changed hip hop forever.

By the way, I'm not sure if I count solo albums after bands are broken up as a "debut." As great as Plastic Ono Band and All Things Must Pass are, John and George both had years of experience in the studio and in songwriting when those albums came out. Personally, I think of a debut as the first major effort (which is why I agree this should be major label only) from an artist(s). They had just a bit of a head start after being in the Beatles for years. ;)

    Sublime- 40 oz. to freedom

Great album by a promising band, I still wonder how great they could have been if their lead singer hadn't overdosed on heroin. Heroin overdoses have taken way too many musical artists before there time it seems :( . Oops, I'm ranting, I NEED SLEEP!!!

So if you never get signed by a major label, you never have a debut?

Weezer, STP, Toadies. Bush had some good singles off the first CD but it wasnt solid all the way through. Weezer had one of those CDs where all the songs are good, rarely does that happen on the bands first try. Weezer did it back to back.

I'll skip the ones already mentioned.

One that comes to mind is Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker". (No, not BRYAN Adams)

2nd on my list would be SP's "Gish".
