What are your picks? This is on a whim, and of course limited to those I own: 1) Guns n Roses "Appetite for Destruction" 2) Van Halen "Van Halen" 3) Cheap Trick "Cheap Trick" 4) KISS "KISS" 5) Sex Pistols "Never Mind the Bollocks" 6) Ramones "Ramones" 7) The Yo-Yo's "Uppers and Downers" 8) Motley Crue "Too Fast for Love" 9) Ozzy Osbourne "Blizzard of Ozz" 10) The Doors "The Doors" I have several honorable mentions. Unfortunately, no Radiohead or Moby in my list, but maybe someday I'll learn.
off the top of my head i'd say: 1) van halen "van halen" 2) oasis "definitely maybe" 3) led zeppelin "led zeppelin 1" 4) jimi hendrix "are you experienced?" 5) guns n roses "appetite for destruction"
This is tough considering so many bands with good debut albums ended up as their debut being their ONLY record. Van Halen I The Rembrandts (untitled) Counting Crowes - August and Everything After Dave Matthews Band - Under the Table and Dreaming (first major label release)
This is a good question and I would list these in no particular order (limiting this list to CDs that I own) and covering all different genres of music: Facelift - Alice in Chains Bee Gees 1st - Bee Gees (Don't laugh...definitely not DISCO) Exit Planet Dust - Chemical Brothers Parachutes - Coldplay Vegas - Crystal Method Danzig - Danzig Deep Forest - Deep Forest No Angel - Dido Mcmxc A.D. - Enigma Oxygene - Jean Michel Jarre Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division Leftism - Leftfield Blue Lines - Massive Attack Bat Out of Hell - Meat Loaf Pretty Hate Machine - NIN The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld - The Orb Orbital 1 - Orbital Blizzard of Ozz - Ozzy Osbourne Ten - Pearl Jam Exile in Guyville - Liz Phair Gish - Smashing Pumpkins (first album) Core - Stone Temple Pilots Maxinquaye - Tricky Dubnobasswithmyheadman - Underworld Utah Saints - Utah Saints If I was pressed to cut this list to 5, I would probably keep Ozzy, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Chemical Brothers, and NIN. Pablo Honey by Radiohead is a decent CD but I don't like it as much as the other Radiohead CDs that I have.
Such a wide array of selected material, lacking in one area though. The Go Go's-Beauty and the Beat, albeit a personal favorite, is an album that cannot go unnoticed. Especially since they are the most successful female band of all time.
No particular order: Chris Whitley - "Living With the Law" Garbage - "Garbage" Liz Phair - "Exile in Guyville" David Rice - "Orange Number Eight" Duran Duran - "Duran Duran" Alanis Morissette - "Jagged Little Pill" Kate Bush - "The Kick Inside" Ben Folds Five - "Ben Folds Five" The Pursuit of Happiness - "Love Junk" Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Tempo"
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 1 Offspring - Smash (I think this is their first album) Metallica - Kill 'em All GNR - Appettite for Destruction Pantera - Cowboys from Hell (I still think it is one of their best) Tool - Opiate Adam Sandler - They're All Gonna Laugh at You (I think this was first, but if not, What the Happened to Me was just as good) System of a Down - System of a Down Transatlantic - Transatlantic Liquid Tension - Liquied Tension Experiment DaVinci's Notebook - Bendy's Law
Some good choices, here. Personally, "The Kick Inside" is okay, but my favorite Kate Bush CD (and the only other one I got right now) is "Hounds of Love", an incredible listening experience.
Nobody's said "murmur'??? In no order: 1. Talking Heads: '77 2. REM: Murmur 3. Elvis Costello: My Aim is True 4. Jeff Buckley: Grace 5. Sinead O'Connor: Lion and the Cobra (she was 19 when she co-produced this record) 6. De La Soul: 3 Feet High and Rising 7. Pearl Jam: 10 8. Velvet Underground & Nico 9. Pete Yorn: musicforthemorningafter 10. Cowboy Junkies: The Trinity Sessions 11. The Pretenders 12. Macy Gray: On How Life Is 13. Tracy Chapman 14. Police: Outlandos D'Amour 15. U2: Boy 16. Stevie Ray Vaughn: Texas Flood
Raven....Smash was like the 3rd or so album from the Offspring And what about Green Day-Dookie. Great album top to bottom. I know that they were Operation Ivy first, then split to become Rancid, but wasn't Out comes the Wolves Rancids first? If so a great album also. And how can you guys leave off the Boss's first album?
