Did you know Tori Amos also did a cover of Eminem's "97 Bonnie and Clyde"? That was pretty f-ed up when I heard that one the first time. Another Few: Cake - I will survive DMB?? - Gin and Juice (I don't know who really did it, but it says DMB as the artist on my download of it.) Blues Traveller - Secret agent man Oh yeah, and what about that Eazy E cover by Dynamite Hack(?)
Somehow it never occurred to me to list the greatest cover of all-time. I also love their version of "(Oh!) Pretty Woman"...but you've got to listen to "Intruder" first.
Not really a cover since Cab Calloway was leading the band. Aretha's Respect was definitely a great cover. I have a great acapella version of A-Ha's Take on Me - much better than the original, actually. Tina Turner - Proud Mary
Do we have another Redd Kross fan here? Sweet! They were great. Alright! What about their version of "Hang on St. Christopher" by Tom Waits? Not bad actually.
Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee. After hearing her cover this song, Kris Kristopherson told her he wouldnt sing it anymore because she made it her own.
how talented is this woman??? she has the best female voice i have EVER heard!!! let me take you back to the 80's...remember Tears for Fears?? they did a song called Woman In Chains where Oleta sang with them...i was very impressed...ended up buying some of her CD's and they get a lot of play at work...
Andy Partridge's rendition of "All Along the Watchtower" is the most incredibly passionate singing I've ever heard...short of Bob Dylan or Janice Joplin. I'm completely serious when I say it's my favorite. imo, you should not try to sing a Dylan cover like Dylan did...but you should sing like that would be the last song you'd choose to sing, if you had to choose a last song. "I can't get.no r.e.l.i.e.f." Partridge sings that line like it should be sung. He also sings the word "Watch.tower" like it is the most important word ever. Hendrix's covers were more about adding electric guitar to honor Dylan. Do you know Partridge had stage fright?

Originally posted by TheFreak also, I've met fromobile, hp! [/B]
fromobile is not Conrad. fromobile is the "little brother." I don't think Conrad posts here, unless he is OTIS. Have you ever seen Conrad sign Neil Diamond?
I've been a Tears for Fears fan since Head Over Heals. For the most part TFF was made up of two guys and they hired really talented studio players to do play everything except guitar on the records. Roldan Orzibal was the songwriter/mastermind behind the whole band. He wrote and sung everything and was the guitar player. The last TFF record was Raul and the Kings of Spain and I definitely recommend it. Orzibal is now doing solo stuff rather experimental stuff - mainly electronica. They actually discovered Oleta Adams singing in a coverband in a hotel bar in the 80's - either St. Louis or Kansas City, can't remember. They immediately hired her and took her on the road. She's awesome.
He can sign Neil Diamond? Like sign language, or forgery? Seriously, no, I haven't. The guy in the picture just looked like 'fromobile', whom we saw at one of our first Austin gatherings.
i have their greatest hits album...good stuff. the progression on woman in chains is just amazing....

Best covers I've ever heard: All Nirvana covers during the MTV Unplugged performance. Jesus Don't Want me For a Sunbeam (Vaselines) Man Who Sold the World (Bowie) Plateau (Meat Puppets) Oh, Me (Meat Puppets) Lake of Fire (Meat Puppets) Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Huddie Leadbetter)
Pick up Elemental or Sowing the Seeds. There are songs on there that didn't make the greatest hits that are well worth it. Plus, I don't think anything off of Raul made it onto the Greatest CD and there are a couple of songs on there that are just tremendous - one in particular featuring Oleta.
Okay first of all: Nina Simone's version of "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" spanks that 'no one can cover Dylan' thing. In fact, I always prefer the covers, myself. Secondly: Nina Simone's "Isn't It A Pity," "Here Comes The Sun" and "I Shall Be Released" make her the queen of that whole Dylan/Harrison/TheBand crew. Thirdly: Nice to see Connie up here -- great work HP. Hey Conrad: Join the site, stop having a life, start looking at the internet. I will pass this link to him. No, he is not OTIS. I think I know who that is. Good thread. CBFC
Devo - Secret Agent Man Los Lobos - Experienced(Hendrix) Luna - Ride into the Sun(Velvet Underground)
The Beach Boys "Sloop John B" Joey Ramone "What a wonderful World" Best I've heard besides the original. You just can't beat the original, but the ramones come very close.
