-Update On my Own Question- Played golf today with my two friends who own DJ companies and asked what ever happed to Quadraphonic sound in concerts. They said there were two major problems with multi-channel sound for live performances. One, each instument has to be engineered for each channel so that the sound waves from opposing directions don't cancel each other out..like noise canceling headphones...equal sound waves from opposite directions diminish the volume. On Surround sound home theater the recordings are engineered so that the phases from opposing angles are different but it would be a nightmare to accomplish in a live performance. And two, since live music has a visual component, people find it disconcerting if the sound of say, the guitarist, comes from a angle behind them that doesn't relate to where the eyes tell the brain that the sound should be coming from. I guess in surround sound recordings of music the rear channels mostly produce the crowd noice and the refelected sound that gives it it's ambience and sense of space. So they said. Partyman.net and DJ's Unlimited if you need'em.
I just updated my list......... Iron Maiden 2008 Houston Holy ****, it was unreal............They kicked ass beyond expectation.
oh wow that was my concert. mine is a tie between one of the 3 tool concerts i have been to or the first ministry show i went to (the two i went to after were average) if i had to really choose i guess that first ministry show man it was crazy.
I got a feeling the Tom Waits show at Jones Hall on 6/22 is gonna end up in my top 5. I've been a fan of his for a long time, he tours very rarely, and hasn't played in Houston since 1982. I know Oomp is going...anyone else going?? Can't freaking wait!!
