mmmm, I'll have to try that one. Usually too busy with all the different flavors of enchiladas and quesadillas... I love that place.
Man that joint is tiny! I drive by it all the time, but I never thought it would last. Is the CFS really that good?
Well I'll have to try that when Refgal and I take her kids on our annual pilgrimage to Fiesta Texas this summer.
I agree that Chili's and Kelly's Country Kitchen crank out pretty good CFS. I used to love the CFS at 59 diner and Dirty's. Haven't been to the former in some years and heard a rumor that the latter is no more.
yessir! great bluegrass band plays the 2nd friday of every month - lonestar bluegrass band. seen them a couple times and it's always a great way to unwind after the work week... bbq, bluegrass, and beers - doesn't get much better than that. their cfs can be a little on the bready side but i really dont mind at all - it's still more than i can eat.
Ha! Keep in mind that the place has literally been there for over 50 years. It also was very heavily trafficked by blue collar folks who used to smoke like chimneys. Last time I was there they had replaced everything and it smelled like wonderful fried food. The other thing about Aunt Bea's besides the chicken fried steak is the breakfast. For $5 bucks they have a thing called the Working Man's Breakfast. Eggs any style, ham, sausage, hash browns + either waffles or pancakes. For $5 freaking dollars... So good...
Going's in Baytown. We used to eat Chicken Fried Steak there every Friday before a game (Lee Football). Best meal I'd have all week.
Nope. Maybe thinking of a different place? edit: saw on a blog that there is one at Anderson Mill Rd & 183. The blogger said it was better than the one on Manor (have no idea!) Glad you mentioned it. I had no clue there was another. (too bad I live in Southwest Austin, although they are building a Chuy's at William Cannon and Mopac, and we've had a Hyde Park Grill the last several months at Westgate)
City Cafe down on college in the City of South Houston 45 exit college, take a left it's about a mile down on the left I drive down there just for that
I co-sign on this. Dot's is awesome!!!! Except I like their Chicken Fried Chicken better than their CFS... the white gravy they have is heavenly... only 5 min away from UH main campus too (I-45 S, exit Telephone)
Hickory Hollow used to be the best bar none. I tried the one in the heights a couple of years ago though, and they didn't even offer cream gravy(brown only). Gotta have CG on my CFS. I usually eat at the one on Fairbanks-N.Houston, but haven't been there in quite awhile either. Hickory Hollow has killer portions though. Me too. The CFS was damn good, corn always tasted fresh, and I loved those rolls they used to have too. The light, airy ones, not the thick, dense ones most places serve.
yeah, I've been to HH many times in the past few years and they've always had cream gravy available with their CFS. In fact, their CFS is just average, but their Cream/Country gravy is the very best in town.
Lulu's Cafe in San Antonio. Largest Chicken Fried Steak, ever. And, they have a Chicken Fried Steak with queso instead of gravy too. It''s fantastic.
