Best Character/Cast of Characters in a Video Game?

FYI, Starbreeze should release Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena this Spring for the 360/PS3/PC. It was supposed to be a HD remake, but they added enough content to make it a remake/sequel...whatever that means. But back on topic...

I really enjoy the character of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted franchise. Kind of missed his personality, but the recent Uncharted 2 teaser made up for it. Of course, I enjoyed a lot of other popular characters like Kratos, Snake, HK-47, Sephiroth, etc. While I liked the FF7 cast, I preferred the FF6 cast (probably my favorite cast of characters in a FF game). Balthier is probably my favorite FF character, at least in recent memory.

All that said, Persona 4 was able to make a 8-year old child likable, so it pretty much wins by default. Plus, it has a guy in a bear suit. I think the characters are a large part of why I like the games, since they make it a lot easier to connect to the events in the game (enjoy laughing at/with the characters, or getting angry/sad when bad things happen to your favorite characters). I think even the minor characters used for each of the ~15 social links are pretty interesting (probably more interesting than the main/major characters in most games), although they can get somewhat repetitive at times. Persona 3 is pretty much the same way, although I didn't find the whole cast nearly as likable...but Junpei is probably my favorite character in either game.

And yes, when it came to responding to which character/cast is my favorite, I did respond by naming numerous characters/casts using a number of categories...while also rambling more about Persona.
