and Howard plays in the East....his numbers are hype up by the fact that teams in the East have no good power forward or Center that can stop Howard....Yao plays in the West....he has to play against better teams and better defenese everyday. So just by looking at numbers is not going to help you understand who is better. But by looking at their basketball skills...Yao is clearly ahead of howard since howard cant even hit a free thrown and cant bully ppl the way shaq did just yet

the question... is who is the best center... not the best center for a team...

being injured or injury prone should not factor into it... unless you ask the question who would be better for this team or that
    team...

In other words, Yao is the best center in some fantasy world where we don't have to consider how he functions on an actual NBA team. Is that what you're saying, or am I misreading it?

i don't think there's an overall best center b/c all have weaknesses.

yao is the best post playing scorer out of all the centers, but he's weaker in rebounding and gets exposed v. some teams. amare is the most diverse scorer with his ability to play pick and roll, jumpshot, and ability to finish around the paint. howard is great at finishing and rebounding, but lack great offensive skills.

it depends on what type of team you have. if you're the suns, you wouldn't want a yao ming. if you're the rockets, you wouldn't want a howard.

i'd choose amare over both. his defense and rebounding need work, but dude would be a BEAST offensively. his offensive game is not merely reliant on the pick and roll anymore (his J is ridiculously good now along with a decent post game).

he played center for 3 years before shaq came. howard and duncan wouldn't be a true center either if you think like that.

yao, kaman, camby are the only true centers in this short list.

No Howard is a center, They thought he was a PF but they were wrong

Yao, Dwight, Kaman and Shaq are all that' left

You can debate that Duncan is a C too.

Why you decided to put Greg Oden there instead of someone like a Chris Kaman, I'll never know.

Because we already know that Chris Kaman isn't the best, whereas with Oden there might be some doubt (albeit very little).

Anyone on the Rockets would answer Yao; what do you think Hedo or Rashard Lewis would say? A couple years ago, the Clippers players were claiming Kaman to be the best C in the NBA.

No matter how good Yao is, you are not gonna get an honest poll result asking this in clutchfans. Even if he is the best center. But I voted for Bynum. Yes, Bynum if he plays 35-37 mpg.
