Sorry... I was a teen once. If I could have seen me back then, I would've hated me, too. [IMG]

    JiggaMan,

Hey, I don't disagree with you. In terms of handling among exotics, not too many cars can outhandle the products Porsche puts out. But I was speaking strictly from a looks, head-turning, value, combined with performance standpoint. I still say no car on the planet can beat the Viper for that. The Porsche design has become mundane to me and yes, aesthetics do matter to me. The Viper, the Diablo SV, Ferarri F50, etc. are all cars that make people stop in their tracks and stare when they each are sitting still. Porsche's design has become bland in comparison. They still have some of the best technology in supercars, but they made an aging design worse when they gave the 911 and the Boxster the same general body-design.

I think where we differ in opinion is that acceleration doesn't mean as much to me as others, nor does top speed, because, as you said, there aren't too many places I'm going to floor it to 185 mph. However, if I'm going to spend that much money on a car, I want to have fun in it as well as let people know I'm driving it. I just think the Viper has more of that head-turning appeal than the Porsche. But to each his own... [IMG]

Agreed on the Boxster's bland design. I looked at it and chose the Z3 instead. No comparison in the "wow" factor between the two, for me anyway.

Pure accelertaion isnt everything. The Viper is sweet, as I mentioned in my earlier thread, but there arent too many straight roads out there any more...our not drag racign, really. It can handle alright, but when you have over 700 hps and a 3.2 0-60, you need a car that can really handle. That is why the POrsche tops it, IMO. The POsrche handles like no other. My dad used to have a 95 911 Carrera 2, and one day he was gone, I took it out to Highway 242 (north of the Woodlands on I-45), and this was a while ago when there were no lights, and much less people.....man, let me tell you. I got that sucker up to about 156, was taking some of the curves around 130 or so. Insane. Dumb, too, but Im glad I did it.

On the Boxster and the regular 911 I agree, but I still think the 911 turbo (I know it is over 100K) has just as much aesthetic appeal as any car out there. The design may be old, but it has one thing that the Viper body doesnt have, and thats CLASS. The POrsche is one of the most classy, sexy vehicles out there. It isn't "hot", but whne you put that big wing on the back, have it lowered a bit with nice large, phat wheels and awesome rims and a glance at those cross-drilled rotors brakes, that car can just seduce you. Its design is classic. It is the type of car, the Turbo, where nearly everybody on the road look sby when it passes and says..."Wow, a PORSCHE'

Now, the Viper is head turning in its own way. When it drives by people on the highway, most car enthusiasts are in awe, as is the average Joe, but the average Jow is in awe because it is a "cool" looking car that is "sure to go fast", even though not everybody would be able to tell you what it is exactly. It certainly has its attractions.

Now, if you asked me to choose in between the two, itd be mighty tough. However, if it was the Posrche Turbo (instead of a Carrerea 2 or 4), I would definitely pick that, even over the Henessey Viper. Why? Well, the MUCH improved handling and road performance of the Turbo, which in and of itself is very very fast, and the appeal of that classy head-turning look, makes the Turbo better than the Viper, depite its amazing exotic beauty and pure, raw power. Plus, it is a DODGE...nothing really against american cars, but I like the foriegn speed much better than the huge-liter engine powers of American cars.

In the end, if money has not become a factor (no F1 cars though), of course, Ferrari stands alone. It has the exoctic beauty of the Viper and the handling and performance of the Porsche. To choose between the 550 Maranello or the F355 Spyder or the F50 would be very tough [IMG]. In the end Id probably wait for the F60 to come out and get that. Of course, I would have to be very rich, which Im not at all, and a preffered Ferrari customer, whic I am also not. Oh well... a man can dream.

I agree with you on the Ferarris. The F50 is one the most exotic looking vehicles made. It looks like it's going 180 just sitting still. Another company that I put up there with Ferarri in terms of "Ultra-exotics" that I'd love to own is Lamborghini. The old Countach 5000's still look futuristic even by today's standards. It is the first super-car I fell in love with as a kid and I still love the Lambo SV... but somewhere reality has to set in. I can afford the Viper... there's no way in hell I can afford the Ferarris or Lamborghinis I want. [IMG]

In terms of handling and a daily-driver, I'd take the Porsche over the Viper, like you said. I don't think I could make a trip of any significant distance in a thunderous Viper. It's basically a race-car that went production whereas Porsche produtcs in general are quite a bit more refined as a daily commuter vehicle.

If money were absolutely no object at all, the McLaren F1 would be my car of choice. Someone around here in the DFW area owns one and uses it as his daily driver. That's scary... a $1 million car as a daily driver. I remember when the guy first got it, it kept overheating in the Texas heat. LOL!

    Well Dod-

I say, if you can really afford it, go out and get yourself a Viper. That would be phat. Maybe you can come pick me up one day and show me what its got [IMG]. YOu really seem to love the car, so if you can really afford it, go for it.

The old Lamborghinis I also like, but the new ones just feel kinda fake to me, almost too ultra-exotic, kinda plasticy. The Ferrari beats it easily in my opinion.

As far as the Mclaren F1, that is one awesome vehicle. I hear that Ralph Lauren owns 2 of them! But it surely isnt practical at all. They have, what, only one seat pretty much in the middle of the car, at least from the pictures Ive seen. Of course, any F1 car is awesome. The Mercedes one and the Porsche 911 GT1 both compete very well with the McLaren. Jaguar makes a nice supercharged exotic also, and the Also check out the Nissan Skyline GTR's..theyre nice. Maserattis are also very very sweet looking.

HAve you seen the Mercedes SLR prototype car. Its cool.

Also, Aston Martins are nice. You should check out www.astonmartin.com

I just like cool cars. Hopefully I will be able to afford a nice one like you someday [IMG]

Hey, I learned when I was in my late-teens that just because you can doesn't mean you should. I have a feeling that the $80k I save by not buying that thing now will be worth several hundred K by the time I'm close to retirement. I'll stick with my under $40k cars for now... but oooooh the temptation!

There's a story behind the F1 that's funny as hell. The design team at McLaren had only purpose in building this car : to build the fastest 4-wheel production vehicle on the planet. To do this, they use carbon-composite materials throughout the car to make it lighter. Everything had to weigh a certain amount or it would get shelved. Well, Kenwood designed the CD changer for the car. It turned out the changer weighed too much according to the production team, so they sent it back and told Kenwood to come up with a lighter CD Changer. Now, that's getting anal. But hey, they ended up building what they wanted. Depending on which mag your read, its top speed is anywhere from 217-231 MPH. That would leave pretty much any car mentioned in this thread sucking dust...

I know about the Skyline. *drool* [IMG] It's a Nissan product and I try to follow their products since my daily-driver is a Nissan Maxima. The GTR is a sweet little car. At one point Nissan was supposed to have brought some to the US, but I don't know whatever became of those plans. I know of some people doing right-hand drive to left-hand drive conversions on them.

Oh, so you want a Nissan Maxima, too? lol. [IMG]

Ive seent hat attitude in action before, though, and my perspective still says what the heck...go for it. Maybe that extra 80K will turn into a couple hundred for retirement, but then again, what are you going to do with that couple hindred. TO be quite honest with you , you might not even make it to retirement (Im not saying I think youre going to die soon or anything [IMG], but you never know what can happen). My parents have a good amount of money, but they are enjoying themselves now, going on nice trips and buying nice things, and I think theyre doing it the right way. They will still leave plenty for their kids (YEAH!!), but not a whoel boatload and theyre enjoying what they have while they can.

You should just get the Viper man. Youd be my perosnal hero then [IMG]

Actually, the McLaren's 'cockpit seat' is flanked by two more seats, slightly behind it, must be a tight squeeze. Perhaps, Saturn might license their ghetto little swing door to the Brits to make things a bit more interesting (mm, scratch that..) Yeah, these vehicles are supremely awesome, while I was in Britain 2 yrs back during the winter, an F1 zoooooooooomed right by (I believe 2 sonic booms followed, as it tore past the sound barrier) along the beautiful Scottish countryside; and my awesome cousin who had the better view to on-coming traffic had been sleeping!! ah well, we stopped by the local F1 dealership in London to get a better view, window-shopping only, arghh.. some trivia: the engine (v12?) is gold-plated for improved cooling.. aight, that's enough reminiscing..

    Man, you're eeeeevil. [IMG]
Naaa... must... fight.... urge.... besides... that Viper could turn into a McLaren in the future. [IMG]

Also, I laugh when people ask me, "Well, what if you die waiting for your money to compound?!". My usual response is, "How much do you think I'm going to care if I'm dead?" LOL! But if I'm alive and didn't save, I'll always be looking back and saying "what if". [IMG]
