VC actually stands for Viet Cong. A variant is called Big 2. It is my favorite game, but there's a 6-card Vietnamese game called (pardon my spelling, i don't know chinese) "Cau thay" where you match up suits until you get to a 2-card-showdown that i love. And my other favorite is a 13-card Vietnamese poker game called "Sap Sam" (cantonese for 13) that is sweet.
Here's the instructions for Sap Sam: http://www.pagat.com/partition/pusoy.html I consider it more strategic than regular poker (outside of the human element of betting in regular poker, which is another game in and of itself).
I know it as Thirteen, and it owns all. My best friend it Vietnamese and taught me. Unfortunately I never get to play it because so few know how to play, which is part of why I love it(same goes for Euchre). 1. 13 2. Euchre 3. Spades 4. Rummy I don't really like playing any other non-poker card games.
VC sounds close like a game in China that is called zheng shang you. I wonder which was invented first.
Pinochle FTW Followed by these games: Hearts Spades Contract Bridge Rook Would love to learn these games but I can never find anybody who is willing to play them: Casino Canasta Gin Rummy Euchre Card games are always something I enjoy doing and I love to learn how to play new games. I used to play contract bridge on-line but the site I was going to had issues or some such, and doesn't work anymore.
1. 13 Cards (not VC but the one were u have 5 cards on bottom, 5 cards in middle and 3 on top ... making poker hands each ... highest being on bottom ... best you can have on top is 3 of a kind ... and u try to win 2 of the 3 hands vs opponents) 2. 6 Cards (where u try to make and have the higher symbols) 3. VC aka Big 2
It's actually spelled, "Cat Te." I had to look it up myself. I love that game, more so than VC, but I play VC more since it's more common/popular. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cắt_Tê
Riichi Mahjongg (the Japanese variant) (NOT THE SOLITAIRE GAME!!!) It's not technically played with cards, but the gameplay has some similarities with gin. It's hella fun, but it has to be played for money for maximum enjoyment. =)
ha, there's no doubt you're vietnamese like me - i love those three, in that order. thanks for the early correction by the poster that reminded me that 6 cards is actually called "Cat Te"
note: I'm not Chinese but I have Chinese friends. My favourite card game is this Asian game that's called different things. Chinese call it Big Two, Viets call it 13, and Filipinos call it Pusoy Dos. I'm half Filipino btw.
I play those with my family but I'm not allowed to gamble with them. VC is more common with the younger crowd whereas Cat Te is usually the adults. Sap Sam is for the hardcore gamblers.
